Just heard on news first ever cell phone call was made on this date in 1973. Price of that first call was around $4,000 said that would be $27,000 today. I got my first cell phone in 1990 was 5 watt Motorola bag phone. I kept it in my van or truck which ever I was driving had outside magnet mount antenna. As a first responder I got that phone free on a government plan. Paid $20 a month for service with 1 hour air time. Can't remember now what is cost per minute after that hour was used. But it added up fast and I was careful not to use that phone much. Thing is was lots of places just didn't even have service even with the antenna I used. I had that phone long time before got my first think it was also Motorola hand held. I've actually had the same phone number since that first phone.. Don't know many people who have done that.
Funny part is the phone I'm on right now typing this. Has more computer power than my first desk top computer. Also has a better camera than several of the digital cameras I had. Sure ruined the whole country when they came up with these things.

Hades is full of the contraptions is my bet. How many times do I see young people on a date night and each fixated on a goldurn little device in their hands instead of each other.
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

I got my first cell phone in 93 when my brother was hospitalized after a stroke. Many phones later but that number has stuck around and is my daughters cell number now.
So, I have gone from no phone at all as a kid to carrying a phone that is also a computer and camera pretty much everywhere I go. The changes I have seen in my lifetime are nothing short of amazing!

I remember a friend who had the bag phone, he sold real estate, and bragged about all the time it was saving him. His first bill was over $700! He was a lot more carefull about time used after that.

First one I had I didnt pay for. Was about 86. Company I worked for installed it in my semi. The electronics filled up the hollow space under the buddy seat. It was not air ride. The phone was on a bracket attached the seat. Looked like a princess phone. Antenna was attached to the back of the sleeper and extended above it. Only worked in or near cities but was a real game changer. Made my job lots easier. No one could call me unless they knew what tower I was on but I didnt need to hunt up a pay phone to get directions or whatever.
