Sometimes they die in places where it is undesirable to leave them in place.

Lots dead on my place and the Laramie region in General a lot getting hit on the roads trying to move to different locations and now they have found a disease in Antelope much like a TB type bacteria. Very few cats or coyotes its been hard on them with drought and disease also.

^^^^Where are you in the Laramie region because we are not having lots of winterkill or road kill right in the valley and or up towards Highway 34.
In fact a few areas are doing quite well for pronghorn numbers, but not very many.
Over the hill on Saratoga side is another story.

Overpopulation is not the issue, feet of deep snow is.

That's true, but hunting anything with a decent rack is going to take two decades for numbers of adult ungulates to bounce back to last years levels. Six feet of snow on the level here.

Hunted a place many years ago along a river in Western SD that had a winter die off before I got there years before. There was a high bank curve in the river where it looked like the piled up and died there skulls and bones all over the place. Found a place loaded with goat bones also during a turkey hunt.

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

I'm glad you don't live here and can tell us what our problem is! Unless you've seen what these animals had to deal with this year, you have no clue what the wild west can be!!

Sad.
Not only as a hunter but a lover of wildlife.
Deer are in tough shape in MN but not that bad.

Bad part of it is, there's elk in a lot of that area too that have died too, but the elk population is high, but for any animal to have to suffer like that just sucks.

Lions are going to get hungry. Probably be some livestock trouble this coming winter. I suspect lion in town will be a lot more common too. A lot of kittens die in a normal winter. With dead stuff easy to find a lot will not.

It's worse here in NW Colorado than even in Wyoming. I wish I knew how to post pictures, it's pretty sickening. Thousands upon thousands of dead critters. Even coyotes and cats along with red fox. We got another foot last night.

Wow!
Hard to put into words how I feel for the critters.

But why are the carnivores dieing?

Really true, our deer have already been very scarce for years and the few that are left are dying off from the deep snow. We won't have hunting in NW Colorado and the State wildlife agency is required to begin introducing even more wolves now? I can't understand Boulder or Denver environmentalists! They politicize everything, even when they don't understand it.

Have you been down in Saratoga Valley, how are they looking ?

Our valley here in Laramie is nice right now and not many issues, mountains keep getting it though.
Best of luck with the rest of winter over there, afraid it's not near over yet.
