It's going to be a little rough getting there this time. Mountain passes are getting dumped on pretty good right now. Hope all the buyers/sellers are able to travel safely today and tomorrow morning!

It will be interesting to see if the FHA results have any impact at all. Mainly I'm thinking of beaver (in the smaller-medium sizes) that did exceptional in North Bay but tend to not do well at K. Falls.

Looking good. Lots of spots on those bellies, now if they were a bit whiter!!

Any pics of the stack of beaver you are taking to the sale?

Maybe later. I still have 40 to take off the boards which won't happen until tomorrow early. (And it will be more than one stack).

Oh, and some regular otters:

Iowa,
Southern otters lol, you remember my pic ? They're white leather down here when I'm trapping. I did put up a couple first week Iowa otters for a friend that looked very much like yours.

The kind of tricky part of these association sales is how to lot each species and what minimum bid to place on each lot. With cats I like to do each cat as an individual lot. Used to be folks running the auction weren't all that enthused with that, but it is pretty common anymore. On otters I will do them in lots of two. My reasoning is there are some real small buyers for the craft market and I surely want them to bid on them.

Now beaver...every year I do it a little differently, but I often will put the best of the larger sizes together XLs and Blankets in lots of about 10-20 per. Then lots by size/damage. I try to have similar pelts in a lot and be about 10 per lot so that it is easier for them to be looked at and graded.

My tail-on nutria will all be one lot as it's likely one buyer will take them all.

With beaver prices fresh in my mind from the FHA sale it will be hard not to have higher asking prices then I normally would. But on the other hand, if the high bid is far off of what I just saw (at FHA) I still have the option of sending them north. grin

This is probably a stupid question but i dont know so im going to ask. If you have a lot of 10 beaver pelts and someone bids 37.50 is that per beaver pelt or for all 10..

Not a stupid question -- they sell by the lot so that is a total price. The ave. you see posted on the website are a per pelt. Took me a little to figure that out.

Each trapper sale has different rules about bids and bidding. Be sure to understand the rules before consigning fur to any trapper sale.

OTC sales - the bid is per lot. 10 beaver in a lot and you want to pay $6.00 each. You bid $60.00

FH in Canada - the bid is per pelt. You bid 50 cents on a lot of 500 muskrats - you’ve just spent $250.00.

Yeah, H20 has it right. At our OTC sales we set a minimum price per lot, and written bids are submitted by the buyers. If the minimum is met the lot is sold. If your minimum is not met, you're informed afterwards and your options are: accept the high bid, take the lot back, or go and dicker with the high bidder and see if you can coax him up. I have done all three over the years many many times.

Naw there are couple guys on here from Virginia but they are 3 to 4 hours from me. The reason I started trapping in the first place was because I had a beaver problem and couldn't find a trapper to come get them. After a couple of months I decided to do it myself. I found out that I could shoot them year long if they were a problem. I was about go get a 22 acre lake so I deemed it a problem and shot 4 of them. Just left them on the dam. A couple days later I figured out I had a coyote problem too. Just kinda went from there. Bye the way, beaverpeeler I grew up in Myrtle Point . Nice beautiful state as long as you stay away from the cities.
