Are you going to set on your castor? Do you market your oil sacs? I squeeze my oil sacs and sell the oil to John Graham. The mostly empty shells after extraction I sell frozen on the trap shed for $4.50/lb Castor I have been shipping...and when it gets to its destination I'm usually happy.

Coulda-shoulda been a lot better but I am satisfied. Had set a goal of 200 beaver for the year but we don't always make our goals.

Way to go BP, our season ends April 7. Hope you get to put your fleshing/boarding skills to task many times over until then.

beaverpeeler- Have you ever considered writing a book on how you have made your living over the past 50 years in your various assortment of "gigs"? Maybe you already have and I just can't remember, but if not, you should. You have certainly lived off the land in ways that very few contemporary people have done. Nice job for your trapping this year, especially when you posted the bcat little campaign. It must have been a target rich environment in that area for those cats and/or you're a pretty good cat trapper as well as those beavers...

Thanks for the kind words NonPC. The closest I have come to writing anything was I had an article on trapping otter toilets published in The Trapper in I believe the November 2004 issue. The biggest compliment I received was about 4 months later the editor of Fur Fish & Game wrote to me and invited me to submit a Trapping article for their magazine. I thought about it but never acted on it.
...Might have been 2006? (scratching my head here).

In a previous post you said you were feeling old. Now I know why! I did my report yesterday after getting my otter sealed and I do not have that many traps nights in the water. What is your average traps per night? Here I thought I was killing it with 31 beavers. One week I got 8 and was feeling overwhelmed. At some point I will figure out my statistics...but in general I like to see about a 50% success rate on the water line. With cat trapping I like to see it a little higher than that. But keeping in mind, I'm only setting up on (beaver) carcasses already previously discovered by cats, so they're "camped out" on it. My average number of traps per night is probably around 20 for water lines.

Now I gotta hustle to get fur ready for the K. Falls OTC sale in 9 days! What do you have to do to get your fur ready? I know you clean skin so I always assumed they went right on the boards. Can you freeze a clean pelt and thaw to be boarded later? Good season BP!
Gotta live up to the nickname...
