Shutting off the water in the middle of the shower to conserve water while lathering. I never even considered it. It'd be tough to adjust water temp again with soap in the eyes. And there's plenty of water. Is this a common thing?
Life ain't supposed to be easy.

Last August I had my family up at my camp. The county had been under a drought watch for several months. I was the fifth person to take a shower when the well ran dry, mid-lather of course.
The well recovered within 24 hours but we switched to what the girls called stop and go showers, apparently what you guys are referring to as a navy shower. Doing that and conserving water other places we were able to stay the rest of the week.
Eh...wot?

And there's plenty of water. Is this a common thing? A 1/4 turn valve in the shower heads allow for temp to stay as adjusted. Delta makes one that resembles what we used in the Coast Guard.

I have a well and beside the Horse we take full showers. We also have a Spring fed pond and the over flow runs continually.
God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.

did navy showers for years while over in the sand box. I don't do them anymore... I have a tankless water heater and a well. I have rather come to enjoy not needing to shut off the water and freeze my acorns while washing.

well it beats the bucket shower
a bucket shower is when the hot water heater is out 5 gallon pail in the tub , heat up a big pot of water on the stove or two
pour the hot water in the bucket and add cold till the temp is decent
plastic beer cup scoop and pour water on yourself to get wet , soap up , then repeat to rinse off
you don't need a tub it works fine outside or over a floor drain also
the more advanced version of this I have seen is a 2-3 gallon pump up sprayer cut the hose and install the vegetable sprayer from a kitchen sink using a hose barb and some hose clamps
I never set up the sprayer myself , only had to use this a few times , our hot water heater died at an inconvenient time and it was a few days before I could plumb the gas over to the hot water heater location and run the vent pipe.
I wasn't going to just replace the electric , glad I didn't the gas has worked so much better than the old eclectic even when it was not old
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Yup, got one on my shower. Have used this one for as long as the missus and I have kept house. Even though none of us do a navy shower.

Around here, part of the sewer bill is based on amount of water used, so you get charged twice!
