The caribou haven't come down into Manitoba for the last decade or so-been up 19 times in our province You get that herd from the NWT/ Nunavut border? Qamanirjuak herd Its surprising that herd is not more plentiful not much people in that area. Huge range right from NWT to Rankin Inlet and south into Manitoba. I hope you get a good migration next winter. Life is so much better when there is caribou around. My dad trapped in the barrens near the border with Saskatchewan in the 1940s. He learned to sew himself caribou skin cloths and speak some Cree.

Neat video, Muskrat. Caribou were still found in Michigan when my mother was a toddler. They have been gone from here for just over 100 years. I have only shot a couple, and they were hardly trophies......one was an antlered cow, the other a bull with one antler broken off just below his left bez. It was on one of the northern Quebec drive-up free-for-all hunts out of Mirage. I don't believe those herds even migrate through that area today, in fact, they closed it all down (I went in late December of 2000). I really hoped to get a decent sized bull because I had a life-size mannikin back in the shop I was going to mount one on.

Were you really worried about it getting away with a hurt leg in the open tundra with Billy 50 yards behind it on a snowmobile?
