I use grapes seed oil. Not sure if it's better but works fine

I use beeswax infused with grape seed oil. Flaxseed oil flakes off and was not effective long term for me. Other oils work fine.

Grapeseed oil has a high smoke point and is order less.
Pour very little in the pan ..about the size of a quarter...then spread it around...then wipe it all out ,with a clean rag or paper towel.
Put into oven ,set on 450 degrees for 1 hour...let it cool in the oven ,without opening the door.
Repeat 2 more times

Any animal fat , don't know why but vegetable oil turns into a glue like plastic. Always wash in cold water , with sand if you have it . Heat to dry. 450 TO 500 DEGREES to season ,on a grill smoking hot , lard or tallow is best. Washed the old cast iron pan many times in the brooks , with the sand in the brook. Only after it could be held with the bare hand. Put above the coals/fire to dry. Cold pan hot coals could crack the pan. Just the way I was taught..
