While sitting at home “teleworking” in 2020 ( I hated it and knew it was bad for the country) I took a break about 1030 am and played” Simple kind of man” and decided then and there I was retiring.
Loved this music in late 70s, and still love it now. Incredibly hard working and talented band. Best guitar line up ever, in my estimation. Saw them about 2019 ... Johnny not as good as Ronnie, but still a great show. Gary R and Rickey Medlocke were on it that night!
My all time favorite guitarist. Had more "feel" than many technically better pickers. Heck, might as well watch him work. On a hundred years old song....
My wife and I had the opportunity to see Lynyrd Skynyrd live at at a smaller venue about three years ago. Heeding the advice of another couple attending the concert we ended up right at the stage just a few feet away from the band with Gary directly in front of us. At the close of one of their tunes he stepped up to the edge of the stage and said hello to us and tossed his guitar pick to my wife. Was a great way to see the band play and a fond memory.
