It's over here and has been for a few weeks. Trees buded early and quickly. We didn't tap thus year

Can you tap trees that are horizontal?

If they are alive and healthy sap flows through them like vertical trees. Now if that are cut off at the base or dead you could try to tap them but won't have much luck.

We use to tap Presidents day, March was thee month to make syrup. The best was the first few "runs" of sap, miss that smell of boiling sap on a calm spring day!

Once they bud its done for the year. If I ever get a more efficient evaporator set up I will tap a lot more trees. We don't tap 10% of our maples. With our hills I could run collection lined into larger lines down hill and have a single collection point for each section of woods. But I get more sap than I want to boil down as it is and time is limited and why we didn't tap this year or even last year. We still have enough left to get us through this year I believe from 3 years ago.

Tapped last week here, Been up and down temperature wise.
They have been running good the last few days.

Guys on vacuum tapped some ago. Friend has made over 400 gallons so far but puts out about 9000 taps. I’m on buckets and will not start until this weekend. I go by 30 day forecast. Currently 22 degrees today.

Like Providence said we have been done here for a couple of weeks. We made about 5 gallons but got pretty lucky on our timing when to tap. Come on over, I’ve got more than we can eat.

For the sap to run good I believe it has to be below freezing at night and above freezing in the day consistently.
No maples here,but in central Ont Maple sugar production is big,and kicks in in Mid March.

Beaver flooding. Blown over root mat and all. Some I can’t get my arms around but somehow they are living.

Ran a little a couple weeks ago before it got warm. Started again yesterday. Hard maple are a long way from budding here as they are not temp dependent. just need some freezing and thawing, way to much thawing right now. mikec

Been bags hanging on trees here for 3-4 weeks at least.

I'm not tapping this year either. My tree here I gauge by been dripping on the driveway pretty good for a week now.
Most years I would have had it tapped by now.

We tapped a week ago in SE MN. Ran good the first few days but its been fairly cold and cloudy since. Hoping today will be better since its 42 and sunny here.
