So, the other day I'm driving back from the trapline and my cell phone rings and I answer it and the guys says "who the _ _ _ is this"? And I say well, you called me so you should tell me who you are. A nasty repose back and it went back and forth about who had called who.

Is it possible that through some sort of phone spoofing a scammer pulled the stunt off? It was a local number.

Oh yes, they can spoof any number they want.

Got one once that came up Wells Fargo Bank with the correct 1-800 on the caller ID.

Claiming a possible fraudulent walmart charge in another state.

Sounded legit, no accents English first language person.

When they asked for password and pin I said hold on and hung up.

Called the 1-800 direct dial not redial to confirm.

Total scam.

Now I'm getting emails that look total legit with logo and format.

I also get three or four "local" calls a day trying to sell me something or bot hang up calls in spite of being on the no call list.

Wait until you get a call from your own number.

I got a robo sales call from my own number once. More frequently, the mimicked numbers are a number or two off from mine.

If they are from the bank they already know your account numbers and how many accounts you have always ask them questions, if you’re not sure YOU call the fraud number on that account yourself to make sure it’s not a spoof scammer.

I guess my question, poorly phrased, is could it be that both of us were being spoofed at the same time by a third party? The guy that I answered the phone from acted as if I was the one calling him and seemed legitimately perturbed that I was bothering him.

We get calls from scammers all the time from other numbers you call back and they just pluck numbers the guy was probably ticked after about 50 calls like that in a day. It’s a pain but we got new numbers and it stopped for now.. Jon

what they want is some key words for you to say recorded
they they try to hack into you accounts and use the ....yes.....ok....etc to transfer 10K out of you account or card with those features

a few key words like ...Trump won...fake elections.....Putin your boss is watching over your back gets a silent tone

Is there a Federal Agency to complain to? Every day i get an email from AxSurvival, every day I remove my email from their unsubscribe, endless back and forth.

They might spoof the last number they called before they called you if they wanted to keep it local.

The no-call list just doesn't work.

New numbers , even though it's PIA , does work. I change my number every couple of years. I get one spam call every 2-3 months. Very peaceful.

I got a call with a Washington DC area code and he claimed to be from the IRS. He claimed that I owed over 10,000 in back taxes. He said if I paid a one time lump sum of 1500.00 it would wipe out the debt. If I did not he would send the Police out immediately and I would go to jail and the legal fees would be even more than the 1500.00. I only had to give him an account number and I would be fine. I laughed and told him that I thought free room and Board would not be bad. I asked him if he knre what the Menu was for the County Jail and that Linda is a Dang good Cook. I told him I would pack a bag and be waiting out front for my ride otherwise I could go down and turn myself in. I told him to Hurry because I wanted to be in lock up by Dinner time for my Supper. He hung up. Pretty hard to OWE the IRS when I get a REFUND Every year for the past 20 years.

I got call telling me my social security number was cancelled due to fraudulent activity. I asked if that meant I no longer had to pay taxes. He got angry and told me a warrant had been issued. If i did not rectify it immediately I would be arrested by the federal department of social security. I started laughing and he hung up.

I bet I have 10,000 blocked numbers in my phone. I get them a lot less frequently now.

Nobody seems to get my main question here. Pay attention dang it!

He didn't seem to be phishing...he was irate that I had called him, except it was his number that had called me. Could in this scenario a third party have manipulated all of this?

The scammer uses any number to appear on your call ID. Often I will call the number back to get the unsuspecting owner of the number and ask if they called my number. Then explain how this happens. Many have said they have experienced the same.

Love messing with the scammers. Have had some real belly busters.
