I have been in the construction business for 40 years and thought I have heard of everything pertaining to construction.. I just heard today that they may be getting rid of white hard hats as it is found offensive by some nationalities. Supposedly a white hard hat represents a boss who is usually white. What is next?

In my plant new guys or transfers from other departments are hi vis green for 90 days and everyone else I'd bright orange.

When I was in construction most of the time a contractor had their own collor they liked. Sterling boiler is dark blue ici was white with green logo foster wheeler was green..... small contractors didn't care any you could wear your favorite whatever that was.

I didnt care one bit what color my hat was as long as it was in date and the style I liked, A florescent orange or red- even blue color was safer in the woods. I cant even begin to understand how the color could hurt someone's feelings.

Can't tell me there aren't minorities wearing white hard hats. Probably just some internet knuckle head posts this crap to get everyone all wound up. I had a red hat when I worked construction. Foreman's wore white. Fire department my first helmet was yellow. Then had black. Only chiefs ever wore white.

I wear a white hard hat and I work harder than the guys wearing the yellow hats. If it's abouts ethnicity shouldn't the Yellow ones be working harder, or is that just a sterio type

If they tried that here in south Missouri, every man on the job-site would show up in the morning in a white hard hat.
White hard hats are cooler in the summer time.

When I started in the mine for Consol in the 70s, you were a red hat. After you got your miners papers in a year, they painted your hat yellow.

Later in my career, new guys were still red hats. But experienced miners had hard hats that came in about every color. Some guys paid decent money to get fancy air brushing on them.

Bosses seldom wore white hats in the mines I worked. But all the MSHA guys and state inspectors did. I bossed for 22 years, never had a white hat. I wore my original hat from 1975, yellow, until it fell apart, then got a black one.

The majority of white hard hat wearers (supervisors) in the US are white because the majority of people in the US are white.

Black is beautiful. Tan is grand. But White is the color of the big boss man.

Yeah on the department I was with. All us fire fighters had black helmets. Officer's have red and Chiefs had white. It's still that way now but what they used to call assistant chiefs are now battalion Chiefs or Shift commanders..
Sheriff's department still has a chief deputy too.

WOW that's all the company I work for buy's is white.
Other than new hires wear yellow ones till off probation.
With better than a 1,000 employees that will be spendy.

Working in the shop for the most part but sometimes I have to help the install team install cabinets. When I do go out on a job I wear a yellow hard hat. It seems yellow is the color for a laborer. By doing so I know nobody will ask a laborer an important question and I can go about my work without interruption.
