I was tagging some cats this morning and was talking to the game warden. He told me to expect snares to be allowed (without special permission) next year in Oklahoma. Who knows if it's true, but if so it would be great.

Are the other Okies hearing the same?

Game warden was funny when he said everyone is already using them, so why not?

Maybe it will be on the list of topics to discuss next year. We have seen some significant movement in trapping regs changes, at least compared to the past. I really think the wildlife commission’s stance on predator control is changing. A couple of the really outspoken dog men are not on the commission anymore and it seems the commission is actually listening to pleas to allow more effective predator control methods.

Some of the greatest minds around think up new laws and regs in Oklahomie! Remember the fighting cocks with little boxing gloves on their spurs idea?

The ODWC actually held 2 free trapping workshops this year. I guess with the decline of the turkey population statewide their trying to promote more trapping. I've had some interest from non trappers wanting to learn how to trap so they could help control predator populations.

We've been trapping with one hand tied behind our back for a long time it's good to see some movement on the regulations.

Seeing the same thing all across the southeast, which is a good thing if you can overlook the educated critters that'll result.

I believe they will open them up under a depredation permit as they did conibears in the past.
I am going to talk with the ODWC and see if we can get laws changed on the bobcat bag limit amd on snare restrictions for NWCOs

I do NWCO work south of Tulsa and we lose some jobs to govt trappers for two reasons they are free, and they can snare in entanglement. So they can snare fence lines. I run snares on nuisance jobs for coyotes and can do pretty good in trails but would really be able to mop them up with the entanglement restriction gone. There is no reason a licensed NWCO should have more restrictions than a govt trapper if they trap for free

I'll probably be there, unless something unforeseeable comes up.

Cat trapper what county are you in? I'm eager to get to know the Oklahoma trappers on here. When I first got on here I only knew of a few now it seems to be growing on okies

I dont think next year we will get snares maybe year after next if people help push for it and then it will be a cable restraint, with no entanglement.

And yes alot of people are using them very successfully, but not everyone understands how to use them and not catch non targets.
