Im wanting to build a shed for my tractor and ATV. Are the lean-to type of sheds effective at keeping the weather off of a tractor or should i build it with a overhead door? I dont want to spend a lot of money making this. I see a lot of farmers have tractors stored in sheds with one side wide open. I just want something to store my tractor out of the weather. Thanks for your help.

I store a lot in the lean to I n my barn it's 16' and the length of the barn. The barn block all the wind from one side .

Yes any roof bigger than what's parked under it will keep rain off but with open sides and depending on height and weather in your area some could blow in the sides like snow but it won't be like sitting exposed. The mo tree the structure extends beyond what is being stored the less that will be able to blow in.

When I had the steel roofing and siding put on my outbuilding- the pallets were banded with remnants of roofing with color issues from the factory to protect the load- I kept it for deer stand roofs and the siding guy said I could have all I wanted. If you have a local guy check to see what he may have.

Most Farmers store a lot of Tractors and equipment in Lean tos as you have described. They have been doing it for years that I know of.

God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.

Just put the opening away from the prevailing wing and your equipment should stay dry most of the time.

Eh...wot?

Most farmers in my area store their tractors inside either a metal pole building or a old wooden barn.
I store my inside my heated/dehumidified workshop. Storing inside my shop reduces the need for annual oil changes in my mind.

I left a tractor outside at the building site when we built. Its amazing how much they will age when stored outside.

Yeah, sitting out in the weather ages equipment prematurely.

Eh...wot?

Many factors at play. Think of sheds as a rectangle. Open to wide side, you can move individual pieces in and out without disturbing the others. If only opening is to the narrow end, and you want something to the back, you have to move everything in between to get to it.

Second.......consider a rectangle.........if opening is to narrow end, wind movement inside the shed dies out within a few feet of the opening. Nothing blows in and air movement inside is nearly dead calm, and UV light coming in is limited. Shed will be dark. Open to wide side, air movement is constant inside. Swirls around, wind and rain both blow in some distance. Also exposed to more UV light and is brighter without lights.

If security is an issue, two doors on both ends or many doors along the sides? Favors doors opening on both ends.
