I have a 9mm Shield for carry, looking at getting a full size for home protection or carry. Considering the Glock 21, .45. I'm not set on the .45 or Glock so looking for opinions on .40, 9mm or
.45 options. Not looking to spend more than $600...

I went with a 10mm back when most people had never heard of one and love it. I spent a little more than you’re looking to spend on my Kimber though. I have shot a RIA 1911 and for the money I was impressed.

Trapperkeck I carry all three from time to time. Mostly 9mm or .40 in the summer and a full size 1911 in the winter months. Which gun fits you and you can shoot comfortably and accurately is what counts. I know ill get blasted but I'm a .45 1911 guy not a Glock guy. Go to a range and rent a few and see what works. Good luck.

My philosophy is that if you got to punch a hole in something make it a big hole. Give me a 45.

I have a 45, I love it. My wife carrys a ladysmith in 357 but shoots 38 home protection rounds and loves it. Whatever gun just shoot it get used to it and get accurate with it and aim for Body Mass then call your lawyer before you call 911.

And so goes the struggle. I am looking for more capacity than my compact 9mm, like the .45 for stopping power, never messed with a .40 or 10mm, but l can see the advantages of the .40 for mag capacity. My lady says she'll spring for a new pistol for my birthday. Maybe I should have posted on the "what makes a woman sexy" thread.? laugh

In the dark, scared, maybe neighbors next door. A 12 gauge with a short open choke smooth bore slug barrel, loaded with double ought. In the house anyway

Why not stick with 9mm to simplify ammo selection ? Then you could find a 9mm carbine. See where I'm headed ?

What's the fun in that? She has a 9, I have a 9. I have a 12, 20 and a 16 ga. Gotta have a .40 or
.45, me thinks?!

What can you get ammo for if you’re not a reloader?

9mm and .45 is pretty common (even if it is expensive these days).

I have a .40, and RARELY see factory ammo for it anymore, anywhere. It’s almost turned in to a dinosaur. Luckily I have a little stockpile.

And any caliber/cartridge is better than your fists. And fire superiority wins the day.

I am a reloader, my neighbor shoots a .40 in competition and is a range manager. I have all the powder/primers I need and all calibers of ammo are readily available at our local sporting goods stores. Still leaning .45, not sure why, other than the ominous hole it makes. Lol. Oh, and a nice loud bang.

I sold my springfield XDs in .45. I didn't like the heavy trigger pull. It may have been 8-9 pounds on a striker system.
