Jims just learning but I can tell he will be a master frost scraper in no time. Once he learns how to make the scraper shave instead of scrape he wont get those little chatter marks or be tiring himself out. I approve.

They dont have to be real clean but you dont want big chunks of muscle left on the hide.

This an otter but you can see how the heavy saddle comes right off. You can take the thick parts of a beaver hide right down quick and easy and they dry overnight at room temp.

I have used that scraper before.Almost any scraper will work as long as its sharpened right, easy to tough up, and your technique is correct. Jim is using what we call a bell scraper or a stirrup scraper.

I just want to know if this video....is Boco approved ..? Not sure if it’s Boco approved, but he should have gotten some credit since he’s the king of frost scraping in this era of trapping.

The beaver were rough skinned and I had flesh them on a beam.
I was amazed at how much came off each beaver, normally I would just scrap them on the table and hang the boards to dry.
Frost scraping cleans them up near perfect and saves you a couple of days of drying time.
Stand by for part two where I show you what I have learnt from the first 3 beaver. What scraper is that and where do you get one?
