Think it's time I start playing with this Weatherby more. Looking a good cheaper bullet for all round work. Mainly pinking on a low recoil load diet though. Might not take a critter anytime soon . Considering cast actually but having trouble finding the power of need .Reccomendations?

Wolf around I can't find any nobler bullets other than 22 cal, dang few Sierra which are actually made here in missouri. Everyplace seems to have a lot of hornady bullets on the shelves, which seem to be the cheapest. Nothing wrong with hornadys either by the way. Be interested to see your follow up posts with target pics.

Dont shoot cast in a fine old rifle like that. Getting all the lead out is not easy. That rifle was made to reach out there and knock down big mule deer.

I think you've mentioned you buy stuff from Midway. Log in, pull up the item you want, (out of stock of course), and click the 'notify' button. That means when product is in stock they will notify you by e-mail you and you can get it coming before anyone else buys it.
The only bullets I've seen go for cheap(reasonable) the last 15 years or so are .223 from Midway or Graf's. That .270 ain't going to be very cast friendly IMO.

I don't know about cheap but Barnes and sierra shoot exceptionally well out of my .270 Weatherby Magnum reloaded of course ... Jon

Get you a box of these bullets, shoot from a bench and see how good that puppy will shoot.

Then you have something to reach out and tip some hogs or yotes!

I won't tell you that you can't do it... But what you're doing is similar to using a high quality chef knife as a letter opener.

Plenty of 140 gr Sierra tipped Gamekings available on Ammoseek. Some of the older design soft points too. Perfect bullet for that rifle. Very few bullets fly as good as GKs. No bullets are cheap right now but the GKs are not a premium bullet with a premium price like Accubonds or monos so the price is not too bad.

Good old reliable Hornady interlock bullet will get it done. Plenty of them available these days and wont break youre wallet. Still a family owned business too!

Sorta accurate. It takes longer but lead still becomes a problem.

The barnes shoot really well out of my 270 weatherby, the interlocks shoot ok 1" or a little over but I aint wasting much powder on plinking.

I should clarify this. His original pet load was IMR4064 a surplus military powder. The 4064"s available today are not the same powder.

If you want to shoot lead, look into powder coating. There's still a limit on how fast you can push them...
