I didn't think I had any reason to go get checked at 50 like they generally say. I Didn't know any family history should been of concern. Thing is didn't really know family either. If you know any family history it sure can help. I'm from the group now of get it early if you don't have family history info. I didn't go until I had some issues at age 57. Now I'm still up right and kicking but all hacked up inside and out. After the fact I had an aunt tell me was lots colon cancer on my mom's side family. Couple of my aunt's my grandfather his brothers. I had no knowledge of that. So anyways my kids and nieces nephews are now recommended to get their first check at age 40. Talk to your doctor if any thing you think is funky tell them. If suggest it just do it get scopped. I will never know if my cancer could been picked off like a tick at age 50. Maybe before was even cancer? Take it from me earlier is better than later. It can literally save your butt.
Oh I'm not shy about showing any one my scars either. If they need encouragement.
Mac

That reminds me. I got my letter in the mail about a month ago to set up another appointment. Hard to believe it's been five years. Guess I need to look around and figure out what I did with that letter.

I was scheduled for one last fall. Due to my heart condition they did not do it, instead I had another test done and I did not have to drink that crap. I've had so many things done I don't recall what they actually did. It was either an MRI or a CT scan, or maybe it was even something else.
I got myself a seniors' GPS. Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination, it tells me why I wanted to go there.

A doctor once told me I’d never need another. Five years later I had colon cancer. Caught at stage one. Now an exam every three years. I ask for no sedation so I can watch the monitor and listen to the doctor. Doesn’t hurt at all. You’re missing the best part…SLEEP!!! It’s really the best sleep of the year when they roll around!! Only side affect is I come out of the anesthesia quite the clown. Apparently I refused to get dressed one time and went around asking people to pull my finger. My wife was beyond embarrassed, especially every time I come in and all the nurses say “We remember you!!”

The VA does mine 10 yrs, except once they found a polyp, and had to redo in 5, but am back to 10 yrs. I take my jug of crap and a good book into the bathroom, and jump in the shower when done. I always make my appointment for early am, and when done go to the chinaman's for the buffet to stoke up. LOL

Please don't put them off. I have lost 4 friends and 1 family member in the last few years to colon cancer. All in there mid 50s. All, every single one of them, would probably still be here if they had gone in for this easy procedure. Don't put it off, it's no big deal to get it done.
