Just finished putting up 23 pints of lard. My wife and my two youngest kids were in on it and of course CupCake the pig got involved. We had 3 crock pots and my sons induction hot plate going with my big dutch oven. We ran the pork fat through my meat grinder and then started rendering. I canned them all for storage. Pie crusts, biscuits, fish fries at the cottage this summer, Yummy! Wish I had some chickens to toss the renderings to, thinking fried chicken there.

I enjoy rendering lard. Not only does it give me something to do during the really cold days but it warms up the house and smells wonderful!

Yum! Fresh cracklin's with a little salt on them. Or no salt and use them for cookies. Cracklin cookies are good, as well.

Poor Cupcake.

It's hard to beat homemade lard.

Naming them isn’t a problem at my house anyway, I just tell the kids from the get go we are raising these pigs to butcher so when they are big enough we will kill them and eat them. They handle it just fine

We always used a cast iron wash pot over a wood fire. Was raised on lard.
