In the market for a new bolt gun for deer. I want a 20 - 22" threaded barrel. I found a 700 sps remington tactical in the caliber that I want. Would you shy away from buying a Remington rifle after the bankruptcy they just went through?
Also looking at Howa 1500, and Bergara B14. Thoughts or experiences? a Remington as in pre bankruptcy production or a Rem-arms post sale build? what caliber are you looking for?

Explain the "tactical " part of it? I actually dispise that word.
And no, I would not shy away from it if that's what you want.

And no, I would not shy away from it if that's what you want. It's really just a shortened barrel version of the sps varmint, little different stock, and a threaded barrel end.

I own the local gun / sporting goods store, and we sell every firearm that’s been mentioned in this thread. I can purchase almost any firearm I want for my personal use at wholesale, and by far, my personal favorite is the Tikka T3X Lite. I also practice falconry, and my current goshawk is named Tikka. Tells ya how much I like that rifle. Yeah, cost a bit more than the rest that are mentioned, but in my opinion, to go above the Tikka, you’d have to jump to the $3000+ price point. And you won’t beat it, you’ll just get more bells and whistles. That rifle stands alone in my book.
Anything mentioned in this thread thus far will absolutely get the job done. You’ll enjoy any and all of them. When ya figure out which one ya want, and the optics ya want on it, message me and I’ll get ya a deal. Would love to help out a fellow trapper, and that applies to all of ya. You guys have helped me more than you’ll ever know just based on the knowledge I’ve gained by using the search bar.
Why do I carry 10mm? Because shooting twice is just silly.

I haven't trusted Remington's quality control for decades. And I know from experience that their customer service sucks, or at least it used to. Personally, with so many other quality gun manufactures out there, I see no reason to risk my money on another Remington product.
Eh...wot?

I have a number of Remingtons in the gun room and have possessed many others over the years. Nothing wrong with them. I sent one back for service maybe 8 years ago and the Remington folks took very good care of me and the weapon.
Needing a rifle for whatever hunt I would and have grabbed a Remington with no hesitation and the rifles have never let me down.

As mentioned above, with a new rifle one can't go wrong with a Tikka.
Absolutely nothing wrong with a 30 year old Remington 700 or a 60 year old Winchester. Won't find them with a threaded barrel or new fangled calibers.

This remington is more than 100 years old. I shot the last mess of squirrels we had with it As for tikka, I have my grandads old sako 243 made in the 60's. Sako makes tikka. I suspect that most of the time any quality firearm failure is due to many thousands of rounds or abuse. Not shoddy manufacturing. So don't be afraid to look till something says here I am, buy me.

I have a safe full of older Remington's. I collect the "Masters": Gamemaster, Targetmaster, Speedmaster, Feildmaster, etc. All are from the 40's, 50's and 60's. Compare any of those to modern Remingtons and the quality difference is immediately obvious.
About twenty years ago I bought a new Remington 332, a reproduction of their famous Model 32. A few months later on a grouse hunt I broke the action open to reload after shooting and the gun literally fell apart in my hands. The stock and receiver were in my right hand, the forearm in my left and the barrels were lying on the ground where they had fallen after clanging on rocks.
The lug on the bottom of the barrels had come off. A quick look revealed a really bad soldering job.
I called Remington and finally got to talk to a live person after jumping through a bunch of hoops. He told me, "Oh, that model has been discontinued and we sold all out spare part to a gun shop in California." I tried explaining that it just needed the lug soldered back on but they weren't interested in helping me in the least.
I took it to my local gunsmith and had it repaired.
You can have your modern Remingtons.
Eh...wot?
