Is there a market for put up beaver tails?

I’m talking split in half, remove tail and flesh, tack up finished product.

If anyone has any insight as to any market for them? Don’t ever hear about guys selling put up tails

I'm after them about every other year, extra large ones,, and usually ask here in the trap shed when needed
but thats come to a screaming halt now there is not an economical tannery out there to do them
decent for wallet work.

Several out there but at 20 to 25 bucks a half, I can't move that much onto my sales to absorb it and still
sale wallets, they also do not provide a pliable leather when done, so I keep looking for a new tanner !

There is interest in the craft trade for them though not as much as most beaver trappers believe there is !

For a few years there was at least one buyer at FHA who was buying beaver tails.
3 bucks a tail for large and 75 cents for the smalls. There was one old guy in our council who put them up and sold them thru fha-most trappers wouldnt bother with it,so we gave all our tails to the old guy.He made out like a bandit selling hundreds every sale, lol.

There was a proper way to handle them,I believe FHA still has the handling instructions in the pelt handling manual.

FHA hasnt handled beaver tails for quite a few years now.

Do they need to be nailed or pinned out to dry them? FHA instructions does not specify but it does say no holes

Thank you. I did find a post where another had done that. Next need to find a tanner or figure how to do it myself. Would like to make a wallet or knife sheath or something.

I sent some to FHA years ago and went to send second batch and they said they were filled up. Like Gritguy said limited market.
