At those close ranges if you want it a tad quieter even without a can, the 300 blackout with sub sonic ammo should do just fine.

Take a serious look at the .17 wsm in that case. Ammo can be found pretty easily. They are only a few years old so people probably don't have a ton of experience with them.

But he already has that gun. What are you trying to do deny a guy an excuse to buy a new gun? laugh

I was thinking even with supers it is less blasty than 223 because less velocity and because it is basically pistol powder so it is much more done burning at 16 inches

the subs need a lot of elevation to make 100+ yards

it is still a center fire

the 22mag or one of the 17s based on not wanting center fire and needing made ammo available.

22hornet is one of those nice in-betweens it used basically pistol powder to get more than 22mag but less than most other 22 center fire rounds the issue is go try and buy ammo right now , maybe your local store has it if so buy 10 years worth and a rifle

grin I say buy the Ruger in .17wsm put a nice little Vortex or Leupold scope on it, and if for any reason you aren't completely satisfied with it, I'll buy is from you for just under 1/2 what you paid if you throw in the ammo. Yes, I'm willing to help you out like that! smile

when you put it like that he would almost be ahead not loosing 200 dollars on the tax stamp for a 600 dollar suppressor and a 6-10 month wait

The 17wsm is a nice flat shooter out to 200. I have one and a 22 mag, the 17 Is a nice gun but I use the mag way more. The mag is a tad more quite then the 17.

I have an A17 in Savage .17hmr. I shot at a target my grand son set out at 135 yards.

I shot it from a solid position and hit most times I pulled the trigger. It hit hard also.

I wouldn't be shy at 150 yards plugging a fox or coyote.

The ammo is readily available also.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I have a 22 mag and 17hmr. Both the same savage bolt action. They are both very similar to shoot. The 17 is more precise, but both fine out to 150. I think the 22 is better for coyote but the 20 grain 17 bullets do just about as well as the 22 jhp. The 17 is much more fun with small critters. It is redundant to own both. If I had to choose one I’d choose the 17.

The 17 mag sounds fun.

If you head in the direction of the 17 WSM, you might want to check on ammo availability. I follow a 17 WSM social media page and rimfire central. It seems 17 WSM has been in very short supply and what is out there is commanding a really premium price. I wouldn’t hesitate going out to 150 with a regular 17 HMR

Fan of 221 fireball. I think CZ was the last to make one.

“The Winchester site had it for just over .50 per round”

Was it this “Winchester site”? https://winchesterammosales.com/
If so I wouldn’t touch it with a 10 foot pole. “Free Returns” and “15% discount for using crypto currency”
