Depends on the battery, but most oem batteries will give a life greater than 5 years. My son just replaced the original battery in his 2015 GMC 2500 this fall. We are on only the third battery in our 2006 Murano (16yrs/3batteries), hope I didn't just jinks it.



A little battery maintenance goes a long way to adding battery life.

First clean the terminals (baking soda and a terminal brush). Wash the outer casings clean.

Pop the battery vent covers and check fluid levels. Fill all cells to the same level with DISTILLED WATER ONLY, (watch for the meniscus to form as they come to the bottom of the vent tube).

Charge battery, check individual cells and have a battery load test done at the.auto parts store.

Interstate is one of the best batteries on the market!

Generally, anywhere from 5-7 years for me. I had a battery in an Suzuki 500 Quadmaster last 9 years, and I just replaced a battery in a Chevelle last May, it was 10 years old. The battery shop where I buy them couldn’t believe it lasted that long.

5-7 Diesel pickup s I got new , replaced batteries at 5 years.
The gas pick-up I got now is 7 years old this past fall, and just put
New battery in it last October, well Chevy garage did (free install)
So couldn't pass that up.
I always put Ac-Delco batteries back in.

Disconnect negative battery terminal when not being used for long periods of time.

have 2 vehicle that we have owned since pretty much new, both are '06 models so 17 years old.
we have only replaced the batteries in both of them once so far.
So that means they have lasted 8 1/2 years roughly.
Hopefully they don't die soon, I don't like messing with cars in the cold as much as I used to.

both vehicles are garaged all winter, one sits out in the summer.
both are usually driven for at least 15-20 minutes when driven, no short under 5 minute drives.
one vehicle has approx. 170K miles the other approx. 140K miles.

All I get out of a battery is about 4 maybe 5 years. And I check them every 6 months. Lawnmowers. 4 wheelers and such. Maybe 2 or 3 years. My heavy equipment, gets over 5 , but not much.

I just changed two reconditioned used batteries in my F250 that were in my truck for 5 years. Its a 2015. I hadn't done the math but I guess that means the used batteries I bought lasted longer than the ones from the factory. (I bought the truck used).

I buy reconditioned batteries from Interstate battery. They were like $60 each. The two batteries was like $135 with tax. I expect to get 3/4 years out of them and they are half the price of a new battery.

I do the same thing for my deep cycle trolling batteries.

I live in Ohio. When it was -8F at Christmas my truck wouldn't start. When it was +50F on Tuesday it started fine and I drove it down to Interstate Battery. The crank battery measured 6V they said.

They don't change them... take the tools you need with you... then you get the core charge subtracted off at the time of purchase.

I never keep a battery longer than 3 yrs. They only cost about 150.00, so 50.00 a yr. Its cheap piece of mind

They were cheaper than Interstate and had almost twice the warranty.

I bought Sears Die Hard a few times also. They gave me usually 7 years.
I don't know who if anybody makes them now.

Don't know crap about batteries but this article has me wondering if lithium might have finally become a consideration for vehicles.

Back in the 90s my friends Dad had an Intersrate battery distributorship. He also has a battery and alternator refurbish shop. I got to work refurbishing batteries on the weekends. 2/3 of the batteries that were traded in were simply low on acid. If a cell wasn't shorted, we would wash the outside of the battery, hit the terminals with a terminal brush on a high speed drill, flush out the cells and refill with new acid. We ran nothing but refurbished batteries for as long as he had that shop.

Thinking back on standing in that cloud of lead dust wearing only a paper mask for hours and how your cotton underwear would rot and fall apart. The good ol days.

Just replaced my battery a couple weeks ago.

Old one lasted eight years for me.

New one was $170.00 plus labor to install.

My 2004 Cannon had its battery replaced about 8 years ago.

The other day I left the headlights on overnight. Next morning, DEAD!

I put on a trickle charger for a day. Started right up and has done fine. I also have my fingers crossed.

The truck sits outside year round. So I'm fortunate its lasted.

Probably a good idea to consider a new one.

That's about right for here. Replace every 5 years. And ALWAYS buy the most CCA you can get for your truck/car if you live in cold climates.

I read the title of this thread and thought. What is this guy on about. Then I figured it out. He spelled vechile wrong . Now it makes sense . I get the batteries I need for my vechiles at Royal king. I get the ones that are made for agricultural vechiles as I think if they can stand the bouncing of a tractor on a plowed field, they should be able to live in my vechiles with relative ease

I pronounce it vechile even when it's spelled wrong.

I get a lot more years from an automotive battery than from a boat or ATV battery. Batteries like to be used where their charge is maintained by an alternator.

Do not put an aspirin in a cell(s). This creates a short charge but ruins the battery in a brief time. I just researched this topic.

Went an got two new ones…..interstate batteries. That’ll hurt your pocket
