Ok guys need some help looking for some scopes. Don't mind buying used or old models as long as they fit my criteria. Just looking for some brands and models to look for . Their alot of good optics for a bit more but their generally just a bit over engineered for what I need exactly. At least for this application.

Good tracking turrets that you can zero/slip scales
$300 and under
30mm tube
Standard mil dot reticle ( no bdc /Christmas tree, or one of these that looks like a dang fighter jets HUD)
3-12 or similar
Decent glass. I DO NOT need premium German glass like ziess or something but barkska from Walmart isn't gonna work.
Preferably turrets that match the reticle.
Side focus

So far about the only thing I've found is the primary arms SLX -3-14 or the
Athlon NEOS and Talos. But wanted to see if there is or was something else out there
Considering just sticking with my muller 3-14x44 AO tactical but the turrets arnt the best and it's a front focus instead of a side.

Anything would be appreciated.thanks

that is a tall order for the price

this is 1 inch not 30mm and so far the turrets track but I can't tell you I run them up and down alot , but a few times when shooting further then back to zero
https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1018392329?pid=626853

for a little more you can get fist focal plane and 30mm tube , but it also seems to come with the busier retical

Actually that pretty close to what I want ! Only deal is it's got a 100yd set parallax. See these would be going on.22lr s so need something that can focus pretty close....but I'm going to keep this one in mind

it has been a little while since I had the rifle with the diamondback out I can take a look at some closer stuff it really doesn't have a focus but it is quite clear

Athlon makes good optics. Look a SIG Sauer and I haven't looked at prices on Hawke but I hear a lot of good things. That's a lot of optics for a .22. If you can find an OLD Swift before the sold the company I don't think they did 30mm tubes but they are very reliable and track well/

Hawke makes a pretty good scope for the money. I think they have some in the specs you mentioned. Tall order for that price, prices you out of Meopta and up. Are you going to dial this scope? Or just using the reticle for holdovers?

Google Shepherd scopes and read up on them. Know a few long range hunters that can afford anything out there and the choose Shepherd scopes

Half and half. Just taking .22lrs out to some distance. Gonna be on some *buddy guns* I just can't justify a $400 scope on a .22lr ... At least right now. No to mention it will be something other peoel will use and I'd like it fairly simple just to cover the basics of hold over/ hold under. Peoel seem to get confused pretty quick with the really complex stuff.

I know you said variable, but a SWFA 6x may be something to consider. Considering what you're wanting to do with it.

I dont think you'll be happy with that one if you have 22lr focus as a priority. I have that scope. It's sitting on 17HMR. Was my first Vortex. Got sucked into the hype on them. It is relatively clear but i cant picture you liking it without focus

it would be awesome if some one made a 2-10 first focal plane side focus with a MOA hash recital
I can't really see wanting to be at full magnifications 12 or 16 power to adjust for hits at 75-250 yards

it seems the end goal is an affordable way to train hold overs , reticles , reading the wind and range estimation on a 22 trainer.

which isn't a very common thing

the appleseed targets can sure help as they are scaled to represent 1,2,3,400 yards while keeping you at 25,50,75,100 they look like almost like the real distance mirage being different at 100 than 400 but the scale is right.

my 22 LTR a 10/22 set up for Appleseed runs a Vortex 2-7x32 with the BDC hash reticle it isn't really the best thing for further than say 125 yards but you can teach a lot with it for about 130 dollars

mounted on my 10/22 is sits about 1 7/8 inches over bore
this is my sight in target to get it ready for some for the Appleseed style rimfire KD shoots we have for fun at our range.

the AS196 100yard 22 aqt target
[Linked Image]
there are 50 rounds on this and I know some are a little low I realized the group was low and re-shot it using the next hash mark
the hashes in the 2-7x32 vortex are 1.5moa for 50 , 4.5moa for 75y and 7.5moa for 100 yards the bottom is 11moa and would be 122 yards with a 25 yard zero
I know it isn't the mil or moa dot you were asking about but for the price it makes a good training tool and the windage hashes are 2moa each so you can still use it for range estimation fairly easily.

down sides , no focus , no target turrets and it is a bdc not a mil or moa retical
those reticals in a more budget optic are hard to find

I have had real good luck with the Nikon rimfire scopes, you could maybe still find them. No side focus, but they have the correct paralax and you could maybe get 2 for 300. It's got a BD reticle but it's simple and it works. I have 2-7 and 3-9.

Hawke makes several 22lr specific scopes

I'll look into this more. I'll tell ya it's just plain FRUSTRATING though ! Like seriously they have all these scopes for under $200 with all these fancy BDC things and set turrets and all I want is a basic version of that. I honestly have such a bad taste in my mouth for caliber specific BDC's.... Idk though I might just be letting my personal feelings get in the way smirk

I don't think of anything as a caliber specific bdc , I know they market them that way , they tend to pick some fairly usable sub tenses but there is no magic that makes it work beyond sort of close. they sell an idea flawed from the get go but that is marketing.

I also don't get why not just make a lot of scopes with the 2moa hashes

that primary arms warrior posted looks a lot like what you were looking for

it just depends what your trying to train

Check out https://www.arkenopticsusa.com. I'm not usually a fan of cheap optics I have NF, Leupold, and Vortex. I bought a couple of the Arkens and have been very impressed.

This is a 4x16 30mm tube with 22lr hv reticle (1260fps). It's a little over your budget at 399 but it's side focus and a pretty straight forward reticle in it that's illuminated
