strike2x, that is a REALLY good representation of trapping and the family aspect is the best"est" part!
Strike2x is also a master remodeler/builder and because of his talent, not only in trapping but as a builder, our home here in MI (we live close to one another) is improved WELL above the $$$ we spent to have it done.

I'm not sure where strike2x comes from though? Guess I never asked you while you were working on our place all summer.

Blessings and Merry Christmas brother!
Mark

That is the best representation of trapping I've seen on television! Nicely done!

Yes JP. From what I gathered from the video they purposely set a trap for a specific critter and then released it because they didn't see it met their wants. I disagree with that.

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

Thanks Catch! I kinda actually agree with you on that, just a little bit though. I’m ok with him releasing it because that’s one of the good things about footholds, you can release an animal unharmed. For what ever reason.

I personally would have kept that bobcat, but totally nothing wrong with him being selective and wanting to release it.
Now if he was using bodygrips and was chucking the dead cat in the ditch because he didn’t want it, that would be a problem in my eyes.

Thanks to footholds, he has that possibility.

When I go fishing I’m always trying to catch some for supper. I target Walleye, but will release the very small ones and if I caught a 30”er I would release it too. It would suck if I was expected to bring home 10” walleyes and count them as part of my limit for the day.

I've let cats go too looking for something better. With a 1 bobcat limit it doesn't make sense to keep a kitten or a female. If the bobcat is in good condition letting them go is fine in my opinion.

Just a bit though, I get it somewhat. All of us set for a target critter and catch incidentals. It's nature, things happen and that's ok. Releasing is ok and sometimes law abiding. Maybe I'm the way far exception to the rule because I don't see the video like 99% do. Yes, I love he is trapping. Yes I love he has gotten his Daughter trapping and gets to spend time with her out there.

However he said in the last five years he has released 50 cats when in Michigan they have a one or two tag limit. I personally don't find it ethical to set for one particular critter, come upon it, judge it, then release it on what he deems good color. Trapping is so much more then this. Think what you will, I do not think this video shows good light.

Excellent job

Catch our cat trapping season runs from DEc. 10-19 used to be dec. 10-20 foothold only (lower Pnninsula) private land only So any cat caught out of that time frame must be released regardless of condition So many bob's are caught and released while ccanine trapping You can keep more then one bobcat but only one can come from the lower penn.

I've caught over 250 beaver many seasons . I'm from upper michigan. I Always thought if I only concentrated on beaver I could catch a thousand. Getting old now but it's still a dream. Although there are alot of wolves now and I believe they take a bunch

Why are he vast majority of your posts on Tman disparaging and critical of other people?

Greg's segment was very well done which is no accident because Greg and his daughter Avery are both very caring people.
Legitimate trappers realize we're able to "make the call" when we catch something in a leg hold and that's typically why they're used in certain situations = they're selective.

Great job strike2x!
And say Merry Christmas to your daughter from Donna and I please.

Blessings,
Mark

I enjoyed the segment and really like how the trapping community was portrayed. There are a LOT of outdoor folks in Michigan who watch that show that have never experienced trapping and foster misconceptions of foothold traps. IMHO, seeing the reality of a catch being released unharmed due to the POSSIBILITY of selective harvest will only help in gaining support from our fellow sportsmen.

I spear pike - I selective harvest.
I hunt deer - I selective harvest.
I trap bobcat - I selective harvest.

I see no conflict with "ethics" in my abilities to selective harvest.

Nice job, Greg!

Butch

Very well done! I like the family aspect along with catch and release. This video/show represents nothing but a positive experience to me. In the west when we hunt mt.lion we target the toms because they do not give birth. We pull the dogs off when we get a female. Most houndsman will not harvest a female. I see nothing wrong with the release.
