Anyone remember the case of the two deer hunters who were murdered in a state game area near Kalamazoo, Michigan back in 1990?

I remember the case because my cousin was the second person on the scene of the murders which occurred just behind his house. His next door neighbor was eventually convicted of the murders.

I ran across this podcast and found my cousin to be the first witness interviewed. It's a fascinating case - a bizarre mystery for sure. Once you get started listening to the podcast, you just can't stop.

There was a guy killed up by pierz mn while hunting, pretty sure it was never solved, didn't happen to long ago.

Don’t want to steal the tread, didn’t a couple waterfowl hunters get shot by another a few years ago? Hunting out of a boat or something?

I don't know if any of these can top Chai Vang killing 1/2 dozen deer hunters and wounding 2 more back in 2004 in WI.

The two guys murdered in this case apparently did NOT know each other, but their bodies were found only feet from each other. Each was shot in the back by a shotgun. One with a slug and one with buckshot, I believe. There were assorted business cards strewn all around the murder scene - nobody is sure why. Happened in 1990.

The case went cold for a long time until some detectives re-opened the case and made an arrest. One of the detectives ended up marrying the wife of the guy he convicted. Anyways... there's serious doubt that the guy convicted was the real killer. It's an in-depth investigation of the case.

There is a proposed alternate suspect in these murders - a guy from Ohio who was convicted of murdering several hunters, fisherman, hikers, or other people found alone in the outdoors. Apparently this guy from Ohio shot up alot of livestock and started a lot of fires, too. He got away with it for years.

Have on unsolved in Clark Cty WI from some years ago as well. Was partner in a business here in our town. Shot and killed no arrest ever. About the time of the Chi Vang murders of hunters as well.

Wow! I remember that story, but what I heard was he went around shooting folks out of their stands. Complete opposite of what actually happened I guess. Not defending the guy, but shoot at me and I’m shooting back as well.

Way more to the story than that. At trial Chai vang said the first guy deserved to die for flipping him off. He shot multiple people in the back and executed wounded people laying on the ground.

I do remember talking with Marion about the investigation into Doug's death as it was ongoing.

At that time I was kenneling his ( Doug Estes ) coon dog for him.
We had met that summer and he was running on hard times and nowhere for the dog.
It was a giant headed Bluetick he named "Beauford"
Worthless except for deer running.
As i remember.

Marion always told me he didn't believe it went down the way they said.

5 episodes in and I’m hooked. With these murder mysteries involving firearms I’m always baffled when they take note of the position of the dead bodies and come to a definitive conclusion. Yes some details can be gleaned from this but anyone who has done a lot hunting and shooting knows critters can do strange things after fatal shots are fired. You never hear this mentioned in any of these shows. A fatally shot raccoon does not just drop dead and cease moving every time. We’ve all seen them do backflips somersaults and flop around 15 ft from where they were shot. Not sure if these shows think this is too much for the publics imaginations or what but I have never heard any acknowledgment of this in these shows. Anyways! At this point I believe Jeff is innocent, a loud mouth but not a murderer. Still a lot of episodes to go.
