I've caught some big cats over the years but this brute may be one of the biggest. Hired to trap predators on this ranch where deer and exotic animals exist, and where the carnage before we got here was crazy bad and super duper costly (over $400,000), and they blamed coyotes... this 41 pound male bobcat makes the coyote carcasses I'm catching look dinky.

Caught him on a 41 degree night...mild winds... on a set juiced up with Widowmaker and Windwalker down a 2" augured hole. MB 550 2-coil OS pan about 8" back offset right. I had told the owner that he had either a BIG bobcat or a small lion because of big heavy tracks I came across while setting traps and looking for sign.

You can see an 18 pound female bobcat... actually a dandy mature size... laid next to BIG BOY and she looks like a kitten.
His stomach was 100% empty so he'd have weighed up to 5 lbs more if'n he'd have eaten recently.

He was heading to an area known as the "serengeti" where all the exotic sheep hang out and where over 110 exotic sheep have been killed since January 2021.
I told the owner and his hired hands over a nice cold brew, (which he gave me so fast and with so much enthusiasm and an "atta boy!!!!!!", I thought he was gonna P his britches) that I believe we killed the killer.

Marshall Dillion always gets his man.

I have no idea if lions and bobcats can mingle or interbreed but this guy could kill big game for sure.

Wow nice cat Mark.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Thanks Jim. He was worth >$50,000 in the Texas Bobcat contest if'n someone in the hunting contest shot him.

Oh yah jalstat. Previous hog cat was 34 lbs. When we pulled up on this cat yesterday, he didn't really bounce around and lunge like all cats do. He sat there. Donna said, "Holy cow!!!
And I said, "THERE WE GO!"

He's headed to a taxidermist.

Blessings,
Mark

Keep up the good work. I am sure the ranch will benefit from the taking of that beast. Beautiful day here in Michigan to check Bobcat traps. Finally got a dusting of snow.perfectly camouflage the sets. Be safe out there.

Wish I had more time to trap....

That is a big boy for sure Mark. I thought when I caught a 33# cat it was a big boy and felt I may never catch another that large for a while. He sure could do some damage when he wanted to do so. Good going. That sure should make the rancher happy.

I hope you are right and caught the culprit and that he doesnt have a friend or two ( competition so to speak ) in the area near his size or larger. I would keep an eye out for others. Those exotics can draw some interest for predators. Very easy prey for them.
