I usually use 3/16 smooth rod. But i came across 10 10 ft 5/16 smooth rod cheap. Would it work to laminate my #2 and 3 square jaw 4 coil traps. Or should i stick with 3/16. Wanting to do the rest of my coyote and bobcat traps. Because i was fixing to dye them in logwood dye. Then dip in fmj. Should i laminate my #5 bridger regular jaw beaver traps? I also use them on otter also.

I don’t know why it wouldn’t work, just adds more jaw area to power through the dirt is all. FYI I’ve never done it so take my advice with a grain of salt. Maybe the beav whose messed with more jaw lams then me has done it

Could always grind a little off if you have to.

If you are laminating on the outside of your jaws might not fit into the frame under the dog. I would stick to the 3\16 rod.

This could be a problem where the 5/16th lam won't fit where the dog Is attached to frame. but you can grind this area down on the lam to make It fit. So yes you can use the 5/16th rod.
I wouldn't laminate your beaver traps. In my opinion this Is a mistake. A square edged jaw will give you more holding power on the beaver and those otter.

Ok thanks. I seen a guy on u tube. Grinding down the area where the dog area is. I called steel shop they got more 3/16 smooth rod in. .35 ct a ft i will run and pick up 4 or 5 20 ft stickes up. Make sure i dont run low again. I can use the 5/16 smooth rod in building a few bobcat live traps.

I used the 5/16 smooth rod on my dogless traps. It worked good on them with no grinding. I used the 3/16 rod on the dog on traps. They turned out good. Now i have 3 dz Duke #3 offset 4 coil. I have to laminate. Ordering stuff too do them. That rod dont want to bend very good. Glad i ended up buying the 110 welder. Works great for this kind of stuff.
