Not sure I understand what your asking are you talking about this season or coon in general? There is very little money in it from a straight fur sale perspective but they might be getting paid to remove them or they might just be obsessed with trapping coon

Most guys have a fur market for a few bucks per coon finished. They then also sell the baculum, skulls, etc and might end up around a 10 buck average on their coons. I guess that is high enough for them to chase a thousand of them

Gotta live up to the nickname...

If your asking why guys are hitting coon, if you have permission on corn farms you're getting begged to trap coon. One farmer im trapping for lost the outer 8 rows of corn to mostly coon.

I will be going out in a few weeks and will take a few coon mostly chasing some rats just for fun and to scratch an itch before taking care of some beavers after Christmas to keep land owners happy. I always figured if you keep landowners happy when no one else is trapping because of low fur prices they will always say yes when the market improves.

Wild_WI i asking about trapping coon when you practicality can't give them away. Drom what i have watched the guy is in Iowa trapping a road right aways. Si ne he has taken more then 250 in 2 says he must be the only one out there trapping coons since it was my understanding Iowa roadlines were high competition endeavor.

I guess I am getting old and losing stream for the numbers game. Thats a young mans game.

Maybe they can afford and like to trap and make movies.
Pretty sure some are active on here.

I like watching, and wishing.

Some people golf their whole life away and bleed money into it, but when a man goes trapping coon he is questioned. We all do different things in life. Let the guy golf I say, and let the man trap.

I'm with turtledale if they want to trap let them trap, look what some people put [money] into 35 pounds of venison? it gets them out in the woods and gets them exercise

Spot On...If I were to look through the lense of return on investment based on each outdoor activity and the amount of capital I have sunk into fishing and hunting over the years and still do on an annual basis- trapping would be my best return on investment, even if it's not a breakeven proposition.

I’m going to hit coyotes and coon hard here. I know value is paltry but I don’t hunt deer or pheasants this is my winter sport and has been for over forty years. Most of my landowners are counting on me. I can’t long line for sure, don’t have that kind of time this will be about 12 farms and it does take me a good two to three hours to run them then I still have to skin each night. I’ll put everything up later when I’m done running traps about mid January. I’m not starting to set until after thanksgiving.
I also have a full time job and other life stuff like all of us do.
I’m 56 and have the will and energy to do this. I seem to be tolerating my daily chemo well so it’s full steam ahead for me. As long as the buyers doors are still open I will be there. I’ve sold a lot of low dollar coyotes and coon in my life. Good times were great, and not so good times were still great. Less competition, more animals, and I learn something new every year. And yes never had any money come back to me from golf but I still go.
Jim

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Some people make money on YouTube. That $2 coon might be worth a fortune if you keep watching the video.
