Don't tear apart the doors, ladders, gates, etc... they will sell $$$ as is even if you don't add them to a project.

That corrugated tin sells good as well. Try not to bend it up more than you have to.

Be careful with any metal hardware in there too. People want to buy that stuff for home decor.

A lot of good stuff in that old barn yet.

Nice looking barn. A lot of work to tear down, but worth it.
Here is the last one i tore down. Built around 1920

There is good money there if handled properly.

Looks like there is some good life left in the barn. Get some rough-cut lumber and fix her up.

Nate I’m not sure on the age, guessing 1920’s but that purely a guess

RR3 I love the color of them ol red barns

Mike I’d love to save the ol barn, I’ve got a lot of memories playing in it and choring with my gpa, but it would require a ton of money to get it back in shape. It has foundation issues and a couple of pretty big spots where tin was left missing for a while that have allowed a lot of places to rot

I hate to see the old barns torn down. Part of what I do as a general contractor is restore old barns. Mostly they are destroyed by owners not keeping good roofs on them, they eventually collapse. If you could even find the skilled labor today to build the stone and timber-framed barns common to my area it would cost a fortune to do so.

Many of the barns in my area are built with chestnut timbers, very valuable.

Eh...wot?

Got a big old livestock barn at my place. Dad, Grandpa and Great Grandpa have stacked lots of bales in the mow. Some work horse harness still hanging in the stalls. One problem-it’s almost completely useless. You can’t even pull a lawn mower in there, let alone stick round bales in there. The barn’s utility was in housing livestock and small squares.

If I had hit the big powerball I would have spent the mo eh to fix it, short of that just can’t pencil it out, needs a new footing all the way around, needs new poles in several spots and while stacking square bales in the loft last year my uncle fell through the floor. I figured start to finish with putting a new roof on it I would be around 60k to fix it up and that may be low it was just a quick calculation I made one day

I met a guy in the military who had been making a living buying and selling vertical barn wood. He said vertical barn wood weathered better than horizontal barn wood.

Must be nice to eat ice cream as fast as you want and not have to worry about brain freeze.

If you don’t mind pulling a lot of nail the roof sheeting boards make nice tables

I have not kept up with the usage lately, but we have a ton of craft persons who sell and display craft work in the Door County tourist area. Old barn boards were in high demand for many years as there were many craft designers that used the old wood. They were also very popular in many dens and rec rooms in many homes in our area. We had a lot of old dairy barns in our area so there was a lot of wood available. During the late 1980s and 90s a lot of the barns were taken down by the Amish in our area. As stated above the cost to upgrade or refoof these old barns and insure them etc. became very costly.

I've made and sold several gun cabinets, bird houses, picture frames, outdoor chairs and benches and all kitchen cabinets for a cabin. I won't ever do kitchen cabinets again. They turned out wonderful but took me a month to do. All out of barnwood
