At 75, this is my 62nd season of trapping. Going out tomorrow to set some coyote traps.. Thankfully, this year I have my 22 year old great nephew to help me and keep tabs on me. He just started trapping last year and loves it. I may have quit but his interest and enthusiasm plus his help is keeping me going.

I don't think so -- Dad just turned 80 a couple weeks ago -- we did tell him that he couldn't walk 4 miles with an elk quarter on his back last season ( made him carry about 1/6th instead). Do what you are capable of for as long as you are capable and enjoy it == but know when to ask for assistance - (at 54 I am just starting to learn that).

You're doing exactly what you should be doing: Keeping your hand in the game while passing your knowledge and passion on at the same time. I hope you guys pile em' up this season.

It is nice to have a young fellow to to help out on the line when age creeps up on you My trapping partner threw in the towel this year at 83 years old. He can no longer walk any distance . I am going to set a few traps just to keep my string going . It will be my 71st year on the line ..I just turned 80 this year , and it is getting harder each year .One of my Nephews may help me out this season. He wants to learn how to trap Coyotes . It will please me to get him started . I hope you have a good year . Remember you don't have to do it all .Any line is better than sitting at home .

Turned 78 last month. I still do predator control work on 3 low fence ranches (snares year around) and 3 high fence ranches (snares and m-44's) nov-march. Love doing it and it keeps me active and out of the recliner. Hardest thing is asking someone do something for you that you have always been able to do

Good to see you posting, Sammy! I second what you said about asking for help. Guess we’re all wired the same!

An old fellow i trapped with for quite a few years just turned 89.
He had to give it up altogether about 4 years ago-his legs gave out on him.
He was a timbercruiser and would go for days through the bush summer and winter with a map and compass and mark out the cut limits for the logging company feller bunchers.
One tough little guy but time catches up with us all eventually.

Yes at 74 I am finding wading the streams with mud and rocks is tourgher every year. Stability becomes more of an issue for me and I also have vertigo so footing that is not stable is an issue. I will just go slower. No real rush to try and make a $ in these times. I notice my upper body strength gets less as well.

Right now I am staying with coyote trapping since I can pull up to a location with my truck and set a trap. I love to mink trap but the constant going up and down stream banks is out of the question now.

I truly wish we had a decent price on yotes yet, but sounds like it’s for fun this year. I believe this is gonna be my 68’th year this year. Same age as you but set my first traps at six, and my birthday is in Jan. Was nice to meet you at coyote days, hope we cross paths again sometime!

So far not doing too well in the coyote catches. We only managed to catch two coyotes in four days. Hope it picks up. However, I did get to use the Death Ray I purchased from you at Coyote Days. Works great. By the way, my birthday is in March so we are close. I set my first trap in 1960.

I can tell I am aging but also "maturing" if you will. Very poor rat sign on my river line to go along with 4 of 5 marshes that have dried up. I have been in 3 sections of a river that total about 2.5 miles. The last 3 years I have averaged 55-60 rats per season in these sections. I set short sections of marginal signs in all three and waded over a couple hundred yards in each and found so little sign I turned back. I won't even set 2/3rds of those sections. To date I have 7 rats in those sections and tomorrow I will pull. With low numbers, low prices, older legs and arms I don't even feel upset about the situation. Not what one was hoping for but acceptence can be an SOB but causes some emotional growth. Now I need to find another way to lose 10 lbs. or so!
