Don't. They'll drive you nuts stomping on your sets and catch. You literally have to make your sets so they can't get at them.

It's an up hill battle to trap around cattle. There would have time be special circumstances for me to do it. I would think in Oklahoma it wouldn't be too difficult to get permission on some ground were there wasn't cattle. For coyotes close to cattle is good with cattle is bad.

One set that I've seen recommended that I've never tried but may someday is the tire set. Bed a trap then center a truck tire over it with bait/lure in the tire. Supposedly keeps stock off the trap but supposedly a canine will dive right in. I have some serious doubts they would but would be willing to try and satisfy my curiousity. The only one I’ve seen pics of that worked, the tire was half buried. Down here I’d figure it would hold snakes more than critters being attracted to it.

Didnt work for me---- something about a tire falling out of the sky in their living room I guess ! you can make a set right under the barb wire fence that will deter most cattle----- dont use any urine----- fresh bait creates less interest from the cattle---- a trench type set- some called it the indian set ? under the fence works for me------- cattle are a pain to trap around but sometimes it is necessary

And I will pipe in here, sometimes cattle can be hard on a caught coyote, if you are hoping to put any up. Jim
Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Maybe if the tire had laid there for years but not a tire just appearing out of the blue.

I trap a number of large ranches and there are always more coyotes in the pastures with cattle. The pastures with no cattle still have coyotes, but not as many as the ones with cattle. Stands to reason. But I also imagine there's a huge difference between what Texas calls a pasture and the strip grazed pastures we have in the east.

I've tried all this^^^^ only thing that works is to make sets OUTSIDE THE FENCE. Yep. Set traps outside the fence. If wind direction is wrong at a good location a slide wire may work
TILL THAT DAY.....

You are correct, the cattle where you live are much more concentrated and would cause a greater problem. In our rough country we run 1 cow to 25 acres.
