Are you camping, staying in a hotel. 27 degrees this morning with a 15-25 mph wind. So you may want a sweat shirt.

It is spitting snow here right now.

Wind is reading 25-35 mph with gusts over 50. But it is up to 35 degrees now.

Oofta. I may have to get a hotel room a couple nights next weekend. Figured mid-end of October in ND would be cold. Going to have a whole suitcase dedicated to cold gear.

Where are you headed?

Checklist depends on where and what.

When we hunt South Florida for turkeys it’s tent and sleeping bag. Try to make sure your camp area has some sort of water supply for a shower every 3 days or so. Camp stove and gas for cooking and plenty of water. We mostly live out of the truck.

Hunting Arizona Indian Reservations it’s definitely live out of the truck, including sleeping. Always be mindful of trash when in bear country.

When I head to Montana next Spring I’ll probably live out of the truck or possibly a hotel, just depends where I find turkeys. I’ll take food and drinks and keep it inside the truck.

On ALL trips I take warm and cold weather gear. It may only be one set of each, but at least I’ll have it. Washed/rinsed many clothes out in creeks or from a water source and hung out to dry midday. I also take a spare pair of boots and relaxing shoes to wear when not hunting.
Never forget toothpaste and toothbrush either, something about a clean mouth makes the rest of you feel clean.
The biggest thing I have to keep in mind when hunting out West is to keep drinking. Down South you KNOW to drink because of the sweat. I swear I get more dehydrated out West even in cold temps than I do down South.

Some must-haves. Barbour jacket, Gokey boots, Filson chaps, an Elhew pointer and a nice double. Don't wear leather shooting gloves if you're sensitive to being labeled a snob.
