Had a good season and got a good meat bull on September 3rd and then got my first griz on September 19th. Good number of moose this year, too many grizzlies (had seven different ones at my two bait stations), and no sign of black bears. The grizzly is pretty tasty and is as good as most black bears I have had.

Nice vid! Perfect size eater. Body is mature so more meat than a young un. Probably fat. Holy cow.............talk about kids that look like their Dad! You have an awesome family! You cut the palm with the sticker? You ain't kidding the water was high! How many of those 4 shots hit him?

They say that removing trophy boars actually increases the bear pop. as they kill cubs. Removing a sow helps keep the pop down or stable. You did have a big one or 2 hitting that bait! Which side of the river were you baiting on? Do you think it would make a difference in the number of griz in the area, compared to blacks? I'm surprised the meat was good. Obviously not eating FISH!

Thanks everyone! Both animals were in good shape and had a good amount of fat. The grizzly was probably eating mostly high bush cranberries (no blueberries this year).
HFT AK- I was impressed the first couple times I had a smashed barrel, but now I am annoyed as I am out of barrels.
martentrapper- all four shots hit lungs. They kept hitting the same two ribs on each side, except one that went through a bit of the one shoulder. I had one bait on one side and one on the other about 3.5 miles apart as the crow flies. I think I only got overlap once with the biggest boar hitting both baits. I think the grizzlies are running off the black bears or eating them, or the blacks have simply moved further away from the river.

Good stuff, thanks for sharing, nice when it's an easy pack. I had one like that this year, lol. It's always a rush when you know there is a grizz around. A few years ago I shot a moose right at dark, gutted it and pulled off two quarters. Next day came back to finish it, bear had buried the gut pile and pulled the quarters into the brush. The ravens were in the trees while I was approaching, meaning I may have pushed the bear off while I was arriving. Good times.

Got a fire made when I came back to skin out the grizzly and wasn't shy about making noise. According tot he trail cams the soonest a grizzly has come in after I was there was just over an hour. For the most part there are wary of humans, but you can never be sure.
