First of all, thank you for hosting this forum. It is a great resource.
I have a couple of traps that I kept from my grandfather when he passed in 1986. They have been sitting in my garage since that time, and I recently decided that I should understand what I have, and decide what I should do with them. The Newhouse #5 was easy to identify because of the marking on the pan, but the second trap has me stumped, and I suspect I may never know where it came from.
It is slightly longer than the #5, and heavier as well. The only markings that I see on the trap are the initials HF (I think, or perhaps HE) on both springs, and a diamond stamped near the pan, as well as on the underside of the trap. As you will see from the pictures, it is missing the chain, but seems to be in otherwise decent condition. I was just wondering if anyone may have a reference to the diamond mark on this trap.
Thank you in advance,
Grant

One of the many fine gentlemen on the trap collectors forum can identify them for you. Just a tip, leave them as they are and don't try to "clean them up" until you know the do's and don'ts.

Thank you,
I have a couple of additional pictures to post, not sure if they will be of any help to identify the trap. One thing that I noticed is a bit of a groove(?) one one of the jaws. Is this for prying the jaws open? At first I suspected it was a chip out of the metal, but the groove is smooth, and looks intentional.
Thanks again!
Grant
