It's not surprising parents showed up to protect their kids with the school in lockdown given how poorly LE protected the Ulvaldi kids. I suspect we will see more of this.

Why are deranged individuals trying to get in schools with guns is the main question?

All our schools have resource officers assigned to ALL the schools now. The kids know who he is and even my 7yr old said he’s “huge”, lol.
As far as this article is concerned, I’d imagine if it was announced here that there was an active shooter, just about every parent in the county would be there loaded for bear and more than likely our LEO’s would assign hallways to clear. Our little town bans together in all times of trouble.
