DANG that's a good northern !!!!!! I wasn't sure what I had hooked. It hit, missed and turned, and I caught it by the tail on a musky innovations tube. Now that was a really odd fight. Pulled like a freight train, but the tail flicks felt super weird.

Talk about fun! Nice fish!
I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!

Upside down pike would be a freight train. You a guide Hutch? If not, you could be. I don't guide. I fish sometimes with a full time musky guide on another body of water, and my good friend is a multispecies guide here. It has taken me my life till now to figure it all out, and i think it would seriously bother me to see some guy who only paid me $500 hammering the heck out of all my spots. Although I have had some good assistance myself, I have paid for none of it, and for me figuring it all out is the fun part. Last nights fish was on a spot I have been fishing a lot knowing there had to be a fish there just based on its characteristics. Last night the wind was blowing really hard from the North, which was unusual, and my theory was that there would be a musky there, on that side of the shoal, in that wind. Boom, exactly as I surmised, despite having never caught or seen a musky there before. THAT is the part I really love, and although I may guide a bit later in life, I feel like selling that knowledge would cheapen things a bit. But my perspective may change eventually, who knows.

I get what you are saying. Speaking of wind. I don't lake fish much. My biggest lake musky came when the wind was blowing hard into the shore, waves slapping the rocks. Like you say you just knew there were bait and predators blown in there. Just like anything, confidence matters.

I applied the theory to a deep shoal and it paid off.

Most of my experience was big river. An upstream wind was a turn off. Key things I patterned were Core of Engineer flood controls, weather fronts, and believe it or not tide. Those can be somewhat monitored from the newspaper. Of course the other factors, but get the above in line and game on. Usually lol. If they are bunched and you are not on them, can be real boring. Big water little hook.
You spoke of shoals and wind. I know of an underwater island. Surrounding area is 12', the island is 6-8' of water. Quite predictable. Sometimes the wind will drift the boat right around it. Crappie magnet.
Friend called and says we are going soon, got bait and am stoked, yeah bait lol.
Thanks for your fishing posts and pics.
