We purchased $2,000 worth last summer. If you have the money it's crazy not to.
Remember as a kid we played army and you gave up the fort so the other side got it? Of course you don't. Little kids aren't that stupid.

I have heated with an outdoor boiler for years. I have been beating myself up because I'm ready to pull the trigger on a Stihl ms661. For those who don't know, that's about $1500! I realize that is a crazy amount of money, but I would easily spend twice that on propane for 1 year. Get a 500I if you can, the 661 is a monster but they are heavy, even the 462 isnt bad. Unless your cutting giant wood all the time or your a masochist stay away from the 661.

But I also have 5 kids that keep the hot water heater running 24/7 taking showers and baths so that doesn’t help

Unless your cutting giant wood all the time or your a masochist stay away from the 661. Haven't ran the new ones, but I liked the 660 or 066 more than the 460 or 046. Yeah they are heavier, but not that much to bother me. The big hype with the 46 was that it would cut with a 66 for less weight. . . well it would in smaller wood. Problem is that a 46 is a lot hotter saw stock than a 66, with a correspondingly shorter lifespan. And then when you hop it up to run with a built 66 it is running on the ragged edge and they have habit of blowing up. And still if you are cutting big wood a 46 won't run with a 66 after you really sink the dogs to it. . . not unless you are comparing a hopped up 46 to a stock 66. I don't run one enough any more to spend the money to buy a new saw and have it hopped up. But I need to get my 660 rebuilt, I sure like running it better than the 391 that an old lady I cut firewood for bought me when I siezed up the 660 last year. Frankly that 391 will cut anything I need to cut, but the 660 with the custom handlebars is a lot more comfortable to run, and it is hard to go back to a smaller saw after running a big hot saw.

I just got my pre-buy contract offer and I think it was $2.699 to lock in the price for future delivery.
If I pay cash to fill my tank right now, the price should be lower than that.
I plan to wait a few more weeks before filling my tank. The longer I go, the less likely I will need to use what I pre-paid for. Plus, I'm hoping the price will come down a little more in the next few weeks.

I cant imagine what the MS 661 would be like. That is a lot of chainsaw.
