government is buying them for 2300 bucks a head to bring on the nationwide food shortage same reason 97 food processing plants/farms have burnt since Biden has been in office. Not sure about that. Maybe dairy cows. I’d be on a beach with my hot wife if I could get 2300 per head. I wonder about the fires and stuff also. 10 a year ago and now 87 in 6 months something’s not right

Milk is at an almost all time high, Beef fats are trading at almost 1.55 , I sold 5 three weeks ago to the Kosher market for 1.38 live wt. Todays market topped 1.55 on prime beef. Feeders, black hided are almost 2.00. I sold two open beef cows last week for 1250.00 apiece. I think beef is doing OK. I kept back 10 hiefers to increase my herd, or to sell in spring as springers. Fat Holstiens are trading in the mid 1.20's . Basically fats are trading 10- 20 cents over board price Out of all the replies this one is the most accurate of the current market . SniperB market report is from March 10 with only 300 head . Awfully small sale to set a market for the day . Cash is and has been far exceeding the board for quite a while now due to lack of cattle . Certain areas and markets are always going to be lower due to lack of quality and numbers . I order buy cattle and travel to different salebarns . And have watched the cash market keep climbing since early spring . As far as the folks getting out - It's like any business everyone's decision to get out is different

From the website you can find more recent sales, the June 8 sale was closer to 700 head total. Prices have increased from a cursory look: https://www.uproducers.com/market/gallipolis-oh-united-producers/

For a taste of current markets look up Hub City Livestock , Aberdeen SD . Or Basset livestock , Basset NE That will give anyone a idea of what the market is doing . They usually have large enough sales to show a true test of the market for that week

I saw a guy selling quarters / halves last night in a add local to me. $2.80 a pound hanging weight and $1.20 processing. It did not say if they grain fed or not.
