At some point someone did some bean counting and decided we were losing too many recruits (and too much money) to blown out knees and such from running around in boots the whole time. (Or so I was told)

I didn't get shorts though... I had the grey sweats and hoodie... And tennis shoes I was forced to buy from the PX.

We ran in fatigues and boots. When it was cold enough we wore field jackets. I don't remember anybody getting injured cause of it. Afterwhile boots do get heavy. Can get hot too. Feels good to take them off at the end of the day. We were a issued one pair of regular black leather combat boots and one pair of black leather chukka boots. One pair of black leather dress shoes. The chukka boots were like combat boots with a short ankle. They were about 3 lace eyelets shorter. We alternated, combat boots one day and chukka boots the next. Gave each pair a chance to dry completely of sweat or water or both. Whatever boot you put on in the morning stayed on all day. When new they did cause sore spots/blisters. Wasnt any sympathy given over blisters.

I'm pretty sure the OP has moved on to curing cancer, or solving world hunger.

Here is my guess, There at least two complete MREs in that pile. The recruits are going to attempt to re assemble those MREs into the original packages. All the while answering questions about the MRE meals such as "How Many holes are in a MRE Cracker?" "Is the Grape Jelly really Grape Flavor" "What does Red taste Like??"
