you can buy a full auto , as long as it was made and registered before 1986 and yes they are big money last I looked a M16 lower not a complete rifle was 10K you need to fill out a form 4 , pay your 200 dollar tax and wait your turn.

IMO M16's will still be used in non combat situations.

While the M16 was being issued in Viet Nam, WWII M14's were still used for Basic Combat Training. Reserves and NG were even using WWI M1's.
