I need a support group

I went to rural king this morning and it went downhill from there.

I came out with 6 Cochin chicks.

I don't have any of them so I thought what the heck...whats 6 more?

I'm gonna put em under my hen tonight that hatched hers the other day so she can raise them.

Are those the ones that get as big as turkeys?

I think you are referring to Capons which are the Steers of the chicken world.

Pintail, that is a great looking basket of eggs, no need to colour those for Easter!

Will the mother hen have enough milk to support 6 more young, or will her natural babies suffer. You really should think these things through before you just throw extra mouths to feed under the new mother, who is probably still recovering from her recent chick-birth experience.

My father used to use Cochins as brood hens. They were very good moms. He later went to game hens, fighting stock. They were even better moms plus nothing ever got close to the chicks.

Just set my incubator last night. Holds four dozen eggs. Eighteen hens just ain't enough.

I told them they need to move them chicks away from the register because they keep calling my name. My head pops up when I hear them peeping it just happens and it tough to not go check them out.

Cochins are such sweeties. I've had many as fine pets and for eggs. They are as flowers, beautiful and needing protection, as all chooks do.

Yes , chook math works that way.

Quail hatching today. Little beggers hop like a frog. Gonna have a confused duck as she is setting on a mix of chicken eggs and duck eggs. Will probably abandon the duck eggs. Good thing have a spare incubator.

We are headed in the other direction. Sold over 100 chickens and roosters. Down to 68 hens 5 roosters.
Good luck with the chicks.
