There used to be an outfit in Colorado that required a barrel full at a time. They were doing a chrome tan.

Hi all. before you can do a chrome tan, you need to thoroughly prepare your beaver tail skin. i'm working on that right now. i'll show you the results in a week.

Randy Shuff in Idaho does a great job, but I think he tans just for what he need himself. Sure wouldn't hurt to check with him though. I'm sure his are a vegtable tan, more than likely quabrotcho, I'm sure not spelled right. I did some deer skins in that many years ago, and were the same color as Randy's tails. I've had one of Randy's billfolds, and think it'll be the last billfold I'll ever need to buy! It wears like iron!

For those of you wondering about tail tanning. Hough Fur Company of Barnesville Mn. 701-306-2330 is getting everything from Specialty Leather to tan tails. HE will just need some time to get it all set up.

That is great news about some one taking over Speciality Leathers business.

As much as everyone will want beaver tails done right away, I hope he takes his time and figures out the learning curve rather than jumping in right away and trying to do too much. People will have to be patient.
