People say to do the things you enjoy doing. Many of these same people say work hard and/or smart and try to retire early. Some of these same people say retirement is the end zone, the goal where you SCORE!
Do we know how many people swallow these advice pills every day and live miserable, wasted lives? 10%? 20%? More? People are prideful and commonly cover up unhappy goings-ons, so when they will say they are happy but when they are online comparing their lives to others a lot, or head out to buy more cannibas, or pills, or make another run to the liquor store, or kick their dog again, we'd define that as not so happy at all.
Trapping is a real great way to get outside and stay outside. In a world turned urban that will call the full time trapper the nuttiest nut in the mix. The person chasing the end zone of retirement to pick up sea shells (love that Piper message) for the rest of their time on earth will live a wasted life of little value so will ridicule (envy and jealousy) anyone who do not chase what they chase... who instead marvels at creation and the Creator. The trapper may enjoy and work for less money many times. Especially in agency work. Because the sea shell collectors run the show and they think that trappers are not "worth" as much as say, a person who has an advanced degree, or two, or three. The shell collectors find identity in titles and trappers have very few. And even if they do, they don't find their identity in them. They love other things above the alphabet behind their name.
Who then has wisdom? The trapper who loves creation and may not even know why, or the person who collects sea shells and never even notices where they came from?
Trapping has always been my means to be outside where we all belong. How about you? Blessings, Mark

I retired at age 44, started a new career, and thought I’d take a couple years off to enjoy family and trapping. I just finished my first fully retired year and I don’t know if I can make it through a second full year. Im going to go through at least this summer but I’m bored. I’ve done all I can do at the house and have refinished complete bathrooms and it’s just boring. I think retirement would taste better in my 60s. John, Here's the skinny. You sitting down? Some are not constructed at the factory for retirement. You may be involved all the days of your life but the involvement will vary according to what you consider valuable. Who started the legacy of leaving behind cash or stuff anyway? We don't ride that rodeo circuit. I doubt by the sounds of your thread post that you do either. Blessings, Mark

If I had to do it over I would have gotten a federal or state job , not trapping. Get your 20-25 years in. You will have life time insurance, pension plus your own 401K plan. Then at age 55 trap , hunt and fish as much as you want. Government jobs is so much easier and better benefits. Why do you think Biden Incorporated choose the government jobs . Marty
