I have no experience with electronic hearing protection. I want to be able to hunt geese and not have my ears ringing at the end of the day. I tried regular ear plugs and couldn't here the geese coming and to put them in last second was a hassle. Preferably I want to be able to hear everything but the gun blast. What brands or specifics sets have you used with success that are also durable? Thanks in advance!

I've done electronic ear plugs from a hearing aid specialist and three brands of electronic ear muffs. I use them every weekend, year around.
I ended up buying several pairs of Peltor Sound-Trap muffs as I believe they were the best performing.

Whatever you decide, buy a pair that has a separate volume control & mic for each ear. This is critical for directional hearing when you're hunting (knowing where the sound is coming from).

After going through/replacing several sets of Peltor and another brand that I can't remember I have settled on Howard Leight. They have a better DBA rating and are still going strong after six or seven years. The others lasted 12 to 18 months at best. I use them with rifles, some pretty big with muzzle breaks, hand guns, and mostly shotguns. I referee skeet and sporting clay events so I absolutely must hear calls for the target and deaden the blast. I have even started to use them when deer hunting, rifles and hand guns. Plus they keep your ears warm on those really cold days.

If you have an iPhone Apple makes automatic noise reducing ear buds. My buddy had just got a pair of them the day before we went to the range. He was listening to music and on the phone the ear buds automatically muted the gun shots but he was still able to hear the music and conversation without missing anything.

both my son and I run HowardLeigh impact sport with the aftermarket gel cusion ear cups

had them around 8 years I htink they work good for me

I bought my wife a pair of the caldwell cheap electronics and the sound quality isn't there , they pick up static and such form near by cell phones and there is no auto shut off battery saver

Peltor , Howard leigh , walker would all be worth looking at

they make some ear bud style now also , I am looking at those after every 8 hours or so I spend with the over the ear muffs on because in that much time the muffs push on the ear which is up against the glasses

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

They don't work and it will cost you your hearing the speed of sound is faster than electronics. It been tested and does not work one of the companies that came out with the stuff has all ready stopped production over law issues.

I have a set of the 3M Peltors, the electronic ear plugs. Not quite as good as regular ear plugs, but pretty good, and you can hear with them fine (better than my hearing, which isn't as good as it used to be) and tell direction with them. They are useless in the wind though. They make little foam wind filters for them, but I haven't tried them yet.

Ii use Walker. Think I ordered from Midway. I am about deaf and have constant ringing. Should have protected my heating 60 years ago.

I have a set of the Allen electronic muffs. I can only use them when shooting a pistol and certain rifles. Most rifles and all shotguns end up pushing them up where part of my ear is exposed.

I wore the HowardLeigh impact sport for serveral all years and was very pleased. When got into sporting clays I started wearing a pair of Walker Razor ear buds because the muffs were hot and interfered with my shotgun mount. I have started wearing them hunting as a hearing enhancer. You can control the razors by thr buttons on them or via Bluetooth and a cell app.

A friend let me use a pair of Howard Leight’s while we spent a couple of hours on the range. I was pretty impressed and will probably end up getting a pair to replace my Peltor non-electronic muffs.

Eh...wot?
