I have been toting around an 1187 12 gauge for years, over the mountains and through the brush. It’s a great gun but is heavy, weighs around 8 1/2 pounds. I recently purchased a Stoeger 3020 turkey model that weighs around 5 1/2 pounds. I put a reflex sight on it and patterned it toady with some tss shot at 40 yards. I’m pretty happy with the way it’s shooting. I think I’m ready to chase some birds now. [Linked Image]

That is very nice. You have me looking now. Been looking for an auto in 20 that was as light as my 20 Youth 870. May have to pull the trigger on one of those. How long did it take to come in?

I have a Mossberg combo that weighs 5-6 lbs. I made the mistake or (decision) years ago to buy 3.5 copper #4s. Two boxes of 10. I still have some left and will not buy those again with that light of a gun as the recoil is really strong. I quit setting up against anything hard as it really comes back hard.

Found it in stock at Dukes Sports Shop, ordered it on Wednesday and it arrived at my local gun shop the following Monday. $30 shipping plus $20 to the local shop. Total cost $650. That pattern is with the factory choke that comes with the gun.

My nephew shoots a Mossberg pump that kills on both ends but the pattern is spot on, the first time I watched him shoot it I let him do everything wrong the gun went flying and so did him. Then the lesson started. LOL

You wouldn’t know the size of that choke would you? I’m shooting a .562 now in that 870. I prefer a wider pattern vs the 300+ holes in a 10” circle at 40. Turkeys tend to get me shaking, lol. I need all the wiggle room I can get. What size TSS shot was that?

Some places I hunt you won’t see a turkey all Winter, come Spring they’re like ants, lol. Another place I thought would be a honey hole had huge flocks all winter and nothing come Spring. Maybe yours will return.

Checked some skunk cages at a place today heard a few yelping I walked over by the trees flushing out about 50 heard a few gobbles after that, seeing a lot of birds this last week. Just around the corner now can’t wait.

I need to get some turkey targets and work on patterning my flint smoothbore... I'd like to take a turkey with it.

It’s not stamped on the choke but the research I did is saying it’s a .575. I know what you mean by needing a little more open pattern at closer ranges. Most turkeys I kill are sub 30 yards, many in the 20 yard range. I plan on shooting it at 20 yards just to see what I’m up against at close range. I found the wad laying on the ground at about 30 yards. The load is Apex #9s @ 1 5/8 ounces.
