Haven't seen or heard anything about him for a while. Is he still among the living? Is he still making snares hope to see him at the convention this year.

Rally is driving one of the big rigs for one of the mines. I wish I could remember exactly how big they are,but he said they are huge.
He is also working a lot of overtime hours.

Do you reckon he misses catching beavers? He's a heck of a good beaver getter,

I bet he isn't missing wondering if he was going to be able to keep the lights on each month.

I have a college class mate that works up in the mines. If I remember correctly took him 1 hr to make a round trip to load dump and load again. But he was making good money.

Why do people think you cant trap and work a full time job?

Yep, still alive and kicking, but no time to make snares. We work 12.4 hour shifts, rotates between days and nights in either two or three day increments. In short, we work half the days in a calendar year, plus I live an hour and 5 minutes from the job, so a 14 hour day each work day.

Stinky Pete,
We have mostly Kamatsu 830E trucks, which are 240 ton capacity and weigh about the same. Also pictured is a P&H shovel which can lift between 50- 70 ton per scoop, depending on material. If you want to paint some more trucks I could get you some contact info! Lol

MarkK,
You got that right. They pay real well, medical, dental, vision, furnish all safety gear, lots of perks, production bonus quarterly(additional $11 per hour worked), everything over 80 hrs in pay period x1.5, holidays x2.5 base.

Paul,
Still doing contract work but not getting excited about $8 under ice beaver! Wife sells them for me tanned in her craft shops. I miss running the convention circuit but hard to walk away from this opportunity at my age.

Tom,
Get a hair cut! PS: Lost Morgan a week ago:[Linked Image]

And one of the best when it comes to snares and a good all around guy.

Must be nice to eat ice cream as fast as you want and not have to worry about brain freeze.

Rally, sorry to hear about Morgan. We need to plan a duck hunt(the way things are going,it may be my last one). Any retrievers left in the kennel?
As far as a haircut goes--it ain't gonna happen. That way at least one of us can keep his head warm, without a cap.
Went last week to see the daughter and son in laws new lab pup--what a little ball of fire. I sure miss having a dog.
Take care.

Congratulations, Rally. Are you at Keetac or Hibtac? I’ve been a mechanic with Utac ( Eveleth mines) for 33 years.

Rally thanks for the info. That for sure is a load. I went to college in Ely Mn. From 84 thru 86. The mines went bust. So many people lost there jobs. I met a lot of the miners. They where going to school for different education. Some of the guys where anywhere from 50 to 60 years old. Was a darn shame. Such a diverse group as well. Italians Swedes. Finlanders etc... All good people. Glad to hear the are up and running
