Y'all, I swear I love my old man I'm at work and get a text with a picture of a swat style ballistic shield and he says " Hay Donovan can you make me a wooden version of this about 4' tall and two foot wide ?" Now my dad has me make alot of stuff for... reasons like I'll get a txt asking how fast i make a hog feeder that's a 300lbs hog couldn't rip up and if I can put it in a specific place in the cow pasture or how hard would it be to fence off a part of the pond for a turtle enclosure, Just random stuff like that. I usually don't even ask for an explanation I just build it lol. But today.....with my dad being a vet .....and not liking to deal with peoples crap to much I reaaaally had to ask. So I ask why in in the lord good name he needs a wooden mock up of a ballistic shield ....Y'all he says for catching snakes with his new snake tongs... after a series of what when why does mom know questions about these tongs he send me this picture from earlier today


Y'all at this point I'm holding my side laughing So I ask what kinda snake is that and where ? I thinking it's just a water snake off in the pasture somewhere. He says " O it's just a water moccasin , yeah I was cleaning up the old chicken pen by the house and he was in this little cooler still in hibernation mode, so I just put someing over it for a lid and left him there , not like he was really bothering anything but I figured once they start waking up I'll have to start moving them more to the old creeks so wanted something I could use as a sheild for my legs while I catch them with my tongs."
Y'all I'm crying laughing at this point at the idea of my dad doing this. This is the same guy who kept a .22lr subnosed with rat shot in his hip anytime we went fishing and didn't think twice about popping any snake he saw, now though I just told him I'll try and get something built and asked when he'd want the terrarium because I see him with a new pet soon I love my old man but he bust be getting soft on me First the pet wild pigs now

well I am not as calm around snakes , 12ga and forget the cooler

for the price of plywood snake gaiters are near the same and he could wear them when he isn't expecting a snake but might find one

Ever seen how fast an agitated mocassin can move? If there's water nearby that's where he'll try to retreat to first. If not, you may end up in a fight with an animal who sees himself as cornered.

That old rascal (snake, not your dad) may end up moving a little slow because it's still fairly cool... But I always keep in mind that David picked up FIVE smooth stones when he decided to face Goliath. Hedge your bets.
