Looks like a cooper's or sharp-shinned.

We find a few of their kills in the yard every year here.

I once had a red tail hawk kill a dove inside a wire cage. How he did it is beyond me.

I was looking out my kitchen window one day and was watching a dove picking gravel. Out of nowhere came this hawk and in one fell swoop grabbed the dove killed it and was on his way. It must have taken a minute or so for the dove feathers to settle. Wish it was videoed.

Great stories.

I'm blessed to have caught this on video.

I've seen them kill and eat before but ever this close and never thought I'd catch it on video

I watched one hit a dove in midair one time and when it realized I was there it took off. I walked over to the Dove and it had a tallon hole on either side and its heart was pierced. I was surprised at just how efficient of a killer the thing was in mid air

Once while pheasant hunting a rooster flushed, I shot and it started to fall. A red tailed hawk swooped down and grabbed it. It struggled but flew off with the rooster.

I startled him or he surely would have.

Must have startled him real good. Of the few I've startled including yesterday they all took the bird
