My bird feeder is similar to yours. But, at my house the squirrels would climb the pole to the feeder. They would wipe out all the feed in the feeder in a day. So, I put a 4' X 6" galvanized stove pipe over the pole with a 5 gallon bucket on top of the stove pipe. The feeder sits above that. Squirrels can't climb the stove pipe or jump up to the bucket.

They still eat the sunflower seeds that fall on the ground which is OK. It's been a harsh winter for all us creatures.

Must be nice to eat ice cream as fast as you want and not have to worry about brain freeze.

Used to feed the squirrels as well but they started getting into the house so I shoot them on sight now.

Can't blame you for that.
I was shooting them off my feeder when they were cleaning it out each day.

I have some squirrels come once in a while. when the blue jays are around they drive them away. I have not shot any but did shoot the wood chuck last summer. I can see why you don't like the squirrels but if I had to choose from a couple grey squirrels and a yard full of a couple dozen turkeys scratching and pooping all over my yard I would have to think about that for a bit.

I feed my squirrels. The birds are a bonus. I want them healthy come time to have young. I counted 16 fox and greys at the feeders this morning.
I feed them through winter. Starting Memorial Day weekend (opening day of season) they start feeding me lol.

So far this winter I've shot 11 reds and 1 grey off our feeders.I let their shenanigans go for awhile but then they started Scratching holes in our bags of wood pellets and we lost 8 bags due to moisture getting in that was enough.I must say the .17 hmr is not a squirrel gun,not if you want them for the pot. They hit with devastating results.
