If we are running out of crude oil maybe companies need to go back to using paper bags Tree huggers want to use renewable resources. Paper is one of them Time to quit using so dang much plastic !

The city here banned plastic bags before the pandemic then allowed them during the pandemic because they are more hygienic. Since August plastic bags are banned again.

The new paper bags are thin and weak these days. They tear so easy, the handles RIP off, forget lifting them by the top. Walmart and other stores charge 10 cents a bag.

Now city council is voting to ban the ban hahaha

Paper suits me just fine. We use cloth bags.

Been saying it for years grew up with all kinds of paper wrappings nothing wrong with it plastic bags suck. They need to put a refund on cans a bottles to I get sick of seeing them in the country side and along roads. Kids could makes some money and get some fresh air collecting them. Brings back a lot of memories getting soda bottles for some pocket change.

My wife cuts feed bags sews them so the bottom is square and sews on nylon Handel's. She cuts then so the pictures are centered.. they look nice hold up well and get more use before being discarded. My favorite are made from the sunflower bird seed bags.

Paper bags only here for quite a while. Can and bottle deposits for as long as I remember. Hard to believe that they don't have deposits in some states it been here so long

stores get a lot of things in boxes then have a mountain of cardboard around back

banana boxes are a good example they have the big hole bottom and top , but 2 banana boxes nets 3 boxes ready to haul a pile of groceries and one extra flap of cardboard

one top and two bottoms , cut the second top up and lay a flat piece in the bottom of each of the others

the cardboard is already there , they already have to deal with it at the store one of those cardboard carts they roll around with good boxes in it at the front of the store could save a lot of bags

you can get a weeks groceries for a family of 5 into 3 boxes most of the time

I grab boxes as we go through the store

my wife also has the canvas reusable bags they hold up better than the thin plastic type
I can carry 3 boxes in the house or 10 bags

I know the boxes can be too heavy for some of the store girls so I let them know I can move them if they like , most of them pack them right in the second cart that they would set the bags in any way

I cut the boxes into strips and that is my fire starter for the week as we get to garden season opened flat and laid in the rows for weed control

better than just dropping an oil resource for renewable , also cutting the waste stream

I'm going the other way with the deposit on bottles and cans. Iowa has that and as of this time there is no where to redeem them in many counties yet the stores are still adding it on when you buy anything in bottles or cans.
Allamakee and Clayton counties no longer have a redemption center open to the public. Not all the stores want to redeem them either. My mother in law has several large bags of cans and bottles that she can't return right now. It should be against the law for businesses or the state of Iowa to collect the deposit at the point of sale but not have a place to redeem them.

No plastic here, unless you buy a box of them from costco, ??? paper is 10 cents a bag, we put our groceries into laundry baskets and drag them inside,

The recycling has become a joke, separate this, store that, and now they won't accept anything but cardboard and number 1 and 2 plastic, got glass?, toss it, other plastics, throw away in garbage, pizza box? big no no.
Beverage containers ,5 cents deposit, good luck trying to find a machine that takes them that works, stores don't want them inside.
It's been a boondoggle to make people think they give a hoot about the environment....

Cloth bags are the way to go. Bring your own to the store. If you forget your cloth bags you get paper and pay for them.

Most of us grew up with glass bottles that could be redeemed for a few cents. Back then the bottled products were produced locally and the same truck that delivered the product took the empties back for processing. That economic model is gone for the most part and the refund on empties went away with it. When a product is made hundreds or thousands of miles from where it is consumed and is shipped in 18 wheelers, it isn't economical to ship back the empties. We need to bring back local production but the NIMBYs don't want any kind of production facility near where they live.

The pulp used in paper bags is almost 100% recycled. No virgin fiber.

yep, they ask before checking out how many bags you want... I stack the groceries back in the cart and load them into the laundry baskets that stay in the car... I refuse to give this state and county a single cent more than I have to.

In NY plastic bags were banned about 2 years ago. Now it's paper or byo bags. The paper bags the stores sell for $.05 are junk. Some of the cloth bags people bring with them to the grocery store are filthy. I like plastic and wish we still had them and not many people I know like paper over plastic

I am cool with double bagging paper bags. I'm ok with recycled paper. You can use it to start a fire.

Sometimes I use a cardboard box.
